Fitted a pair of Contiforce tyres when I fitted the alloy wheel conversion to my R1100GS,(the best model in the best colour,black).
Now,3190 miles later,the rear is down to 0.5mm,so another tyre is due.
The rear has given no problems but I'm keen to find out if anyone has found another make which gives good grip with a bit more mileage.
I've performed a search but no joy.
Interestingly,I saw that Fanum claimed 20 000km for a dual-purpose rear,but pushing the bike without the engine running doesn't count.

I got 10k from my rear Tourance, the front has done nearly 17k, I expect to replace it along with the rear at around 20k

First off, that was Emjay, not I.

Secondly, I suspect you've misinterpreted that comment......the way I read this is that Emjay changed his rear the first time at 10k, and now he expects to replace it after a further 10k, ie at 20k km.
10k KM =6213 miles, which is about right if not slightly low........

Your contiforce is a tyre I didn't list...do you have any more info on it???

BT020's - I've never known anything to beat them in any conditions.

I'm still using a pair fitted in August '03 & they went to Princetown the month after (around 1000 mainly m/way miles). They've done loads of quick rides, the TT this summer, several flights across the Pennines to the Yorkshire meets & another trip to Princetown this last Sept. A total of around 7000 miles & some of it has been very aggressively ridden . They're still legal (just).

I think Busters were doing pairs recently for £159.99 delivered.

Since I started browsing the site,I've developed an ability to read threads without absorbing all the information correctly,sometimes it's the only way to make sense of it all!
This explains the facts mix-up.
The Contis are popular here in France,they are priced reasonably,plus the Continental website quotes magazine tests of the tyres,all claiming good mileage.
With few exceptions,I think all modern rubber gives really good levels of grip compared to what was available 20 years ago,however the wear rates do seem to vary considerably.
I'll look into the Bridgestones,if I slide off with them,which forum is appropriate for my complaint?

20,000km is possible!

I've just nudged 20k and I've still got the original Metzelers - including two-up touring and hard road use. I'd be hard pressed to use any other brand. Admittedly the rear is virtually finished but it's difficult not to be impressed - none of my my sports bikes ever made it beyond 8,000km from a year.

You will be wanting Metzler Z6.

I fitted a pair of these to my alloy wheel converted 1150 at the end of May this year, £160 fitted and balanced.

I have managed to get 8k so far and they look like they may last another 1k.
I always managed 6k-7k from Tourances on the spoked wheels.

The Z6 have 25% more grip, wet and dry than the old Z4 and I am very happy with them.
I am tempted to go Bridgstone but from what I have read they are not so good milage wise.

I will probably buy Z6 in 2005.

I'm off to the tyre dealers next week to check out a few prices and have a look.
Went out on the bike yesterday and noticed the front tyre has just a smidge of tread left on the left-hand shoulder,so I guess I'll be needing a pair.
Makes it easier to change brands as I prefer running matched pairs.
