Hi All
Im looking for an alternative tyre, any advice from people whove tried other stuff much appreciated.
Ive tried standard Tourances and rated them highly
This time Ive had Tourance EXp and really liked the sharper profile but the front tyre is goosed after approx 2.5k. The centre is fine but the edges are right down and theres a nasty wedge between centre and sides. The rear is just cabbaged.

I ride pretty hard, mainly on bumpy dales roads and also fast A roads and like to get a move on most of the time.

Does anyone use road tyres such as Michelin Road 2 or Avon Storms etc please?

Mate uses Michelin road 2's on his 06 1050 tiger. Has used 3 sets in 10k! grippy but no wear.
All my road bikes had Bridgestone bt020's Now replaced with bt021's These are great tyres imho.
Last for ages and have a duel compound (ie soft on the sides and hard in the middle.)
Get 10k out of a set no probs.
I am running Conti trail attacks and i can't fault them, Trailie type but more road oriented.
Done 3k on them and no signs of wear what so ever, great in the wet too.
Conti road attacks get a great write up too. Again the conti's are duel compound so wear more evenly. Mine have no squaring at all. I'm over the moon with them. Wouldn't use anything else. So in conculsion if you want great wear and grip wet or dry, give the conti's a whirl. If you dont mind spending hundreds of pounds on tyres as they wear out then just get the sticky sports type.
hope this helps.

I used to run bridgestone BT020's on my 1150gs and got around 7k out of them. I am now running Conti road attacks they are a very sticky tyre, have only done 2k on them with no complaints so far

The guy with the Tiger must give it the beans!! I get far more miles out of Mich' Pilot Road 2's than any other tyre I've tried on GS's. Great wet grip and good in the dry. 15,000k rear 20,000k front. Really!

He's a fast rider but never mad or dangerous, rides it everyday to and from work plus a trip or two at the weekends. When i say 3 sets in 10k i meant was on his third set by 10k. But he likes them and they are good in the wet. but hey Conti's are fantastic in wet and dry and last really well.
Mate is going to try the new B/stone BT021's

Showed this to my mate and he just laughed! said you have to take them out of the wrappers first!
said you must ride at 300 everywhere. :augie

Can you get pilot road 2's for the front wheel on the GS? also thought Michelin do not recommend for gs at all due to side wall loading?

I don't think Michelin have a problem with using them on the GS. I'm pretty sure that there was a pilot road for the GS and a rep I talked to at the Garmisch Bikermeeting reckoned that Pilots and Anakees were OK'ed in any combination on the GS. Hope this helps.

getting Metzler Sahara 3 Enduro road/off road tyres tomorrow - will let you know the outcome !

Piolt Road 2s

I run Michelin PR2s on the kawasaki - done 4000 winter miles, and solid as a rock.

michelin had a £20 fuel voucher scheme too - so they worked out at £210 fitted and balanced.

I had an email (now deleted) from Michelin to say they did not recommend road pilot2 for GS. but interesting you can mix pilot and anakee.

The old pilot road is fine for GS with correct sizes available!

I went from Pilot roads to Distanzias and what a difference! The Avons speeded up the steering 10 fold and the bike was a revelation when it came to blasting round bends! I have had a couple more slides on the Avons though and they`ll probably do about 1k miles less than the pilots. When I come to change I might try the new tourances to see what they`re like. If you`re happy with what you`ve got why not stick to it?
I think the mileage from each tyre will be about the same & depends on how YOU ride your bike.

Forgot to say michelin describe them as for adventure touring bikes.

110/80 VR 19 (for adventure touring bikes)
150/70 VR 17 (for adventure touring bikes)

I'm currently on EXP's and don't rate them compared to the Conti trail attacks (basically a road attack for big traillies) I had last. The EXP's seem a bit slippy in the cold and wet whereas the trail attacks just gripped and inspired confidence in all conditions (fairly aggessive toe scraping style:D). The EXP's seem fine now it's got a bit warmer though but 1000 miles on and they are looking decidedly more worn than the conti's did.
I'll be going back to trail attacks as soon as the EXP's are donald duck'd:thumb2

Totally agree,
Conti's are superb:thumb2
have done 4k on them all through winter and never a worrie in all conditions. ABSOLUTLY NO SQUARING AT ALL AND LOADS OF DEEP TREAD LEFT
Now its dry and warm they are fooookin geet man! get the toe decked regularly and braking is so confident. love em!!:hug

Has anyone tried the Pirelli Diablo Strada on the GS?

I have them on my Aprilia Futura (sport touring) and they stick like glue in wet or dry and seem to wear better than the Conti Road Attacks I had on before. My Road Attacks lasted 5000 miles and then cupped in the rear.

Running Metzeler Tourance EXPs on the GS with no issues. Seem a good compromise eg. for running the occasional trail but 90% on road.
