After a few little low speed drops the heads are a bit scuffed, 1st Question, how thick are they? So I know how deep it will go before breaking through?
And 2nd, what is the best way to refurbish them?, quick rub down with wet and dry then Lacquer?

Sorry forgot to add 1150GS

And why haven't my TT head covers arrived yet.......Doh

Snooky, managed to drop mine on the M5 at Christmas doing 70ish, slid for what seemed like forever. Offside rocker cover was very ground down although didn't create a hole, so you've probably got a way to go yet.

I've got a couple of sets spare if you want to play with them, and then give me back which ever ones you don't use.

Just a thought:beerjug:

Vern, I will see what I can do with mine, have got the TT head guards coming soon and they will cover up the marks for now, but might be after some if I throw them hard enough down the road/track :thumb

Apparently, The word on the payey is, that the blue ones are twice as strong as the silver [or chrome] ones.
They are also 2mm narrower for better cornering, and posess the ability to clean your oil as it passes over the inside surface.

Thats what Jim Elderfield told me when he sold me his, so it must be true.

It is true, isnt it ?

Well apparently, The word on the street is, that the chrome ones are twice as strong as the blue or silver ones.

Thats what Steptoe told me when I told him I'd bought some, so it must be true.

Oh,the old style ones.Mine actually renew any oil that comes into contact with them, they are totally unbreakable and made of unobtainium. They are also impossible to touch down, and weigh absolutley nothing. But if you don't want them......

well word on the street here is that ANY coating applied to the covers - apart from the original colour actually causes an oxidising effect on the oil it touches.

Especially chrome - due to the electrolytic process

Blue ones have a strange pigment that actually attacks oil.

I'm sure there is a recall from BMW on them - phone a dealer for details.
If they can't understand - try talking louder or shouting - they'll appreciate you for overcoming their old 'phone system

Vern is correct - Original 1100 silver ones do the job bestest - everything else is a retrograde step..........

Actually, me old tin coffin maker, The blue covers are manufactured from the little known metal known as BLUTONIUM, closely related to the much more volitile plutonium.
This material actually adds a form of gamma rays to the oil on contact, which exites the female molecules within the oil, making them extremely slippy. This action reduces the friction inside the engine to almost zero, enhancing the performance.
As a bonus, it also makes the exhaust fumes smell like castrol R.

So there !!!
