My R1200GSA has proven to be the best all round bike I've owned. I use it every day regardless of weather and it can make the most miserable weather something to look forward to! I can't see myself selling it.

I'm close to buying a 2nd bike, something impractical/mad for the odd sunny day such as a Triumph Rocket. Has anyone had any experience with one of these beasts?

I know a bloke who's got one. He goes touring on it and he reckons it's his ultimate bike (and he's owned a few!).

I must admit I think they are a really nice looking bike and would love one myself but that would be greedy:rolleyes:

I swaw quite a few in Europwe last year and they have so much prescence be it parked up or out on the road. Buy one now whilst its in your nodle:thumb

rocket 111

buzz ive got a rocket 111 i must say that they are fun but very different to a gs once used to them they will hustle but be carefull and very smooth and you can grind the pegs easy on most rounderabouts they have good speed but under no conditions would it keep up with a gs except from the lights it would eat one for breakfast ive had two gs before but swopped the last one for a tiger 1050 6 months ago but at the moment im thinking of getting another just seem to miss it the triumph tiger is a brilliant bike but still not a gs only we have toured most of europe on a gs over the last few years and some brilliant times were had by both of us the other half says also that the only bike to come close to the gs is the rocket hope this helps:thumb

Rocket 3

Thanks it's good to see what you think about this beast!

The problem with the GS is that it does everything too well and any second bike I've previously owned has been eclipsed by the GS.

I think the Rocket will be completely different from the GS making it the ideal 2nd bike. The only questions are that of reliability build quality and would I be able to sell it.

My mate Bob takes his touring around Europe every year so I imagine it's fairly robust, and I doubt there'd be any problem selling it on. Future classic I reckon.

Hi Buster :thumb I'll take this opportunity to welcome another local lad to UKGSer ;)

Bryn :beerjug:

Haha mint video, was having a poo morning till I watched that :bounce1 :bounce1

rocket 111

thanks for the welcome bryn as to second hand values on rockets buzz they do hold good money about as good as gs models they are hard to get second hand because they are snapped up fast

forgot to add that the realiability has not been a problem to me in 4000 miles from new the build quality is good to but built like a tank with steel parts for everything you need to ride one for a couple of months to really get used to it so dont take a short test ride on one and think it heavy or cumbersome because thats just not so it grows on you the longer you own one now with me every time i go out i want to scrape the pegs the first time you do it is just the start of really being able to handle it but be very aware of its bulk because it will catch you out just as easy as reward you

Thanks for thee reassurances , all looking good so far. I've tried one out and felt it was something that would grow on me making it the ideal second bike for a GS rider.

I bought a Rocket III in September 04 and the bugger leaked oil from underneath the oil tank from day one. It went back to the dealer 5 times to have the oil leak cured and each time it came back it leaked again. It got so bad that it had to go back to the factory to have a new crankcase fitted as the oil had eaten its way into the silver powdercoating :spitfire

The factory had it for about four weeks and when it eventually came back it still leaked oil :blast so I rejected it back to the dealer and got my £11995 back :thumb

Despite all my problems I will no doubt eventually buy another. That power is addictive and they now powdercoat the engines black so you can't see the leaks :augie

Greedy ...........what does that mean. I don't think it counts when it comes to bikes. It's a bit like women having more than a few hand bags / shoes get my drift.

You go and give that bike a home and tell ya missus she can have another pair of shoes, can't say any fairer than that. If she don't go for it tell I said it would be okay :thumb

Surely you wouldn't put yourself at the mercy of Swepson and Smart again??

Yep why not ??? My only change would be the dealer I bought it from. When the Boss man repeatedly promises he's going to call you then doesn't bother and then won't take your calls he deserves to have a Rocket 3 shoved up his arse. Fortunately for him due to the amount of Mobil 1 covering the crankcases it slipped up easily :thumb
