I test rode an Aprilia Shiver at the weekend.

Firstly, what a great hooligan bike that is. Fantastic. I grinned from start to finish.

The over-riding feel for me, was that it was a bit like riding a scrambler on the road - nice and light, upright riding position and with a really sweet engine that was just so eager to go, even from under 2000 revs. It would then haul rapidly all the way to the red line, making a truly beautiful noise as it went - a really great motor pushing out 95bhp, I think.

Now, I've seen pictures of a supermoto version they're planning to release, and as we know, a supermoto's only a revised rim size away from a dual sport.

I'd be extremely surprised if they didn't bring out a dual sport version in 12 months or so... and if they do that, the character of the motor should make it a real peach. This could be a SERIOUS competitor for the F800GS...

Priced at £5,500 you may be right.
You were spotted at the weekend :augie

Paul,
You should try the Triumph Street Triple. WOW! If they ever get a 675 Tiger Cub out there, THAT will slaughter everything else.

I was very nearly a Street Triple owner but long waiting times and no discounts put me off, it also needs a lot spending to get it like all the magazine bikes appear. Fantastic ride though.

I was talking to the bloke in the shop the other day - he reckon's Aprilia are quoting a 12500 mile service interval on all their new 'in house' motors.

The Shiver looked great. Not for me, but did look good.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Leave it alone, that bike is sex on wheels, don't ruin it

Andres

Ha ha! Yes, like a Hypermotard, but even nicer.

Don't worry, they're unlikely to discontinue the supermoto, but that engine's just so sweet, it would make a fantastic Adventure version.

My understanding is that the frame and engine are shared - not sure about the relative states of tune?

Andres

They sound very similar, if not he same, they're quoting 95bhp for the Dordoduro - pretty much the same as the Shiver.

Shep - picture of road-going Shiver attached for comparison:
