Insurance is up for renewal on the 1200GS TB, fully comp. 18 months old. Garaged in Kildare (although close enough to Dublin that some load it).
Liberty are quoting €420.00.

Am I in the right ball-park or should I be shopping around?

You forgot to mention that your an auld git as well!! :D

I shopped around last year and finally left CN after 7 years, Adelade were the cheapest with
full Euro breakdown cover etc like CN.

CN are rubbish, id love to know how and why their criteria changed a few yrs ago. Call Adelaide.

Beware

Left CN last year and moved to Adelaide, about 10% difference which CN wouldn't move on.
However, will probably move back to CN as Adelaide's breakdown assistance is very restrictive with no recovery back to home just nearest suitable garage. European cover is for 30 days of any one trip with the same recovery conditions.

You can get good breakdown cover from ADAC, then take that cost into consideration along with your insurance.
I am with Carole Nash, their breakdown cover is brilliant, used it (too) often.

Another vote for Adelaide :thumb2. The market has tightened up a little but you should be able to haggle 9 to 12% off their first price. Never disclose your current quote until they give you a figure. It's just like playing cards.

Beware with Adelaide your bike must be garaged, if for eg you wash it in the driveway, go for a coffee, bike gets robbed, no insurance.

I asked about this, Gerry and was told that the restriction applied to putting it away at night. If you come home for lunch during the day, for example, that isn't what the restriction applies to.
That said, it was verbal, can't quote who said it or when and they are an insurance company so the usual tendency to want to avoid claims and change rules probably applies. :nenau

Thanks for the replies.
So I have on the list for a phone call

Adelaide
Carol Nash
Liberty

Any others I should add? Any experience of AON?

I'm with Axa, have been for 5 years. They have breakdown assist, and will get the bike home from abroad if need be:)

Gerry, that's incorrect. They say in the terms that at home the bike must be garaged. That's in relation to overnight parking. If your bike is nicked while you are having a coffee in the city or anywhere else then the "theft" portion of your policy covers you.

Luke, you misunderstood me, your having the coffee at home, the bike is in the driveway. I was told by them that the bike must be garaged at all times while at home, day or night, in fact he said if you come back from a spin with the intention of going back out bike must go into the garage, slightly different to what they told Kami,

Hmm, if that's the case I'll be asking them for a written clarification !

I was with them for a while too and found them very good to deal with. In fact they were the only ones willing to quote when I came back to biking, with no recent history.
Adding a bike...easy.
Adding an additional rider...easy.
However, they only quoted because I had a car insured with them at the time. When I cancelled the car policy, they were, however, happy to continue with the bike policy.
I only left them because they wouldn't increase cover to comprehensive mid-term.

That depends on your prespective. From my own experiences, I found CN to be the best. Their breakdown assist is far more comprehensive. 3 years ago I ran the battery flat in my GS. I rang CN to sort it out - they had recovery
out in 20 mins, bike sorted but they insisted it was taken to BMW Calais for a health check. This was done (bike was
perfect) and all for free. When I was charged by the Euro Tunnel for a later crossing, CN offered to reimburse me for
this too. The later rang that day (twice) to check to see how the bike was. So CN rubbish ? I really don't think so.
I'm guessing Adelaide have some sort of EU cover now from reading on here but when I tried them it was UK &
Ireland only.
And from what I saw of AON's breakdown assist in the past, I'll take CN every time.
