I've heard in passing that gaining an advanced riding qualification such as RoSPA or IAM can have help with an insurance discount.

Now quick Q- anyone know if that same benefit can from the bike can be applied to car insurance?

Cheers,

I have found over the years that being rospa qualified means you usually get discount from the more expensive insurance companies - but by phoning around I get cheaper insurance from other companies who do not give a discount for rospa.

So for me it's not a question of doing it for cheaper insurance but for doing it for a better qualification and to keep myself and others around me safe.

Oh - motorbike insurers do not recognise car rospa.

Agreed on that front. Done the test and subscribe to your view.. just looking to see if there are any fringe benefits :P

Ah yes.. but car insurance recognise the RoSPA being done for bikes, yes? (Take your point also where it makes a difference btw)

the advanced training has to be appropiate to the type of vehicle you are insuring

I've always been offered a discount on car insurance as a member of the IAM even though I've only passed the bike test. I've never been asked for anything other than my membership number. I think t

Continued...bloody ipad!
I think they work on the basis that if you've bothered to pass the test and apply the IPSGA principle you should be a safer bet.

yeahbut,

in my experience - and i've pushed it, promoted it and worked at it, a lot on behalf of others (i may as well have done this instead --> :banghead: ... )
you will never recoup the outlay of the training/testing if you do an Advanced test for the insewerance discount.
Do it because it may lead to a longer healthier life - great :thumb2 , but insewerance companies dont give it much credit.

Apparently not, I can only speak for IAM assurity which do give car discount for a bike qualification but not the other way round.:nenau

Doing my IAM test at 26yrs old, I've more than recouped my outlay in what I've saved on my insurance. My S1000RR cost me £350/yr to insure through the IAM's own scheme, the 2nd cheapest price anywhere else was £1000. It can be done, but I'd say it is uncommon :)

And yes, the IAM's own scheme applies to a car policy even if you've only down the bike test :thumb

Don't even mention mine as the cheapest prices, usually online don't ask... As before, the more expensive quotes or the higher risk groups will benefit but Moto Ins is very competitive these days without...

Interesting stuff.. cheers all.. will report back if I get any joy... :thumb2
