You know as I typed it I tought i'm leaving this open to suggestions :ymca

Am I missing something here, surely rough camping means anywhere off the road.

Member of our family 80 years of age with his wife just open boot of car get kit out and camp anywhere, I asked him about security at night he said " I boxed for OXFORD"

It would indeed. There used to be loads of great places on the A82 side of Loch Ness untill the local council started dumping bloody great big boulders in every open space.

Thats to stop pikies like you camping willy nilly and leaving freezers and burnt out cars at yir erse:thumb

Don't mind tents but when I see a campervan at the side of the road early in the morning I always give them a kindly blast on the horn:D

Couple of North West suggestions:

Firemore Sands on the B8057 north of Poolewe. Community owned land - camping is rough but permitted. There is an 'honesty box' where you are asked to pay £2 per night. All monies go to local (Inverasdale) Primary School. No one checks - its up to individuals to pay. Brilliant place - light fires on the beach - collect drinking water from a local spring about 1 mile away. I was there in October last year and by 6pm the beach was deserted.

Other option is on the Slaggan road. This is an unclassified road north of Laide towards Opinan. Ride down the dead-end track for a few miles and park up. scramble down to the beach and you will have complete peace and quiet - guarenteed

Pics 3-5 Slaggan
