Decided to wash bike this afternoon (handwash only no jetwash) noticed balance weight from rear wheel missing ( dont know how long its been gone or if it was there when i bought the bike a couple of weeks back) Decided while i was doing bike things i'd check the chain for wear and tension. Wear seems to be ok but chain was very loose over 45mm so followed instructions in manual and tightened chain up now approx 35mm. So took it out for a spin this evening and the ride feels really rough like i'm riding over rough ground the whole time rather than tarmac, and feels like lots more vibration through handle bars.

So.........

1) is it just me looking for aproblem cos i thightened the chain and i'm checking its ok, and really nothing wrong

2) because balancing weight is missing and i have now tightened the chain i can feel its not balanced properly and need to get it balanced.

3) I havent tightened chain correctly (but have double checked that the little number on either side are in the same place and evrything is tightened)

Any suggestions??

Sit on bike (off the stands) and NOW measure the chain, bet it's too tight now with you on it

As the suspension sags, then chain play tightens.........that'll be the cause of the rough ride, bet it feels like it'll shake your fillings loose

Right???

The manual says it's best to set chain tension on centre stand..............but that doesn't account for suspension sag

Thats just what it feel like :thumb

I shall sit on it tomorrow and get hubby to have a look, Thanks for the speedy reply will let you know how i get on

Try and put enough weight on the bike (might need assistance) to get the front sprocket centre, swing arm pivot centre and rear wheel centre all in a line - this is where chain is tightest. Check it has some play here.
