Round the world from Edinburgh

They appear to be saying "Give us a deal or we'll give you some neg publicity"

"This is indeed an expensive business, especially given that we had to cough up full list price to Motorrad Central East, Dalkeith (almost £12,500 each) for the bikes, including optional extras. With the machines having covered over 3000 miles now, they are halfway towards their first major service at 6k – does anyone know a more sympathetic/supportive BMW Dealer out there? If so, please contact"

Mmmmmm :augie

According to this site anyway. Anyone know the people involved?

An interesting website and an incredible goal for the riders.

Without trying to sound facetious, I'm surprised that they didn't incorporate The Long Way Downes somewhere in their plans.

I met these lads on the ferry back to Newcastle last June. They had been away for a wee trip around europe getting their new bikes run in. Had several beers on the ferry with them and a fine pair they were, good laugh.

I don't know anything about them, but hope they do well and succeed in their task.
I do however, wonder what it is that the Verandah Tandoori Restaurant are trying to communicate with their link - or am I being totally outrageous?:nenau

bit of a cheek isn't it..... ....give us a cheap bike so we can go have fun.....slightly dubious behaviour IMHO, I personally don't like this sort of behaviour.....so however well meaning they may be, I've been put off......:(

Is BMW and its dealer network supposed to offer freebies & discount to every round the world wannabee who rocks up & asks even if there is alledgedly a charitable element too it.

Nobody forced these guys to buy from Motorrad Central. If they did not like the deal offered they could have shopped around, or gone the KTM route or bought something far less expensive like a new Suzuki DRZ400, Yamaha XT, etc. Plenty of others have ridden the world on far less than brand new BMW's, and managed on lesser budgets e.g. Mondo Enduro

If keeping costs down and making maximum return for the charity was really an issue they could also have bought used bikes. Seems like this team are not skimping on other peoples money and sponsorship to fund their dream  Be interested to know how much they expect to make for their selected charity when costs have been met; perhaps they could just sell the bikes now and give the money to the charity.

That's kind of the way I saw it............. :(

Brand new 1200s are fine for Ewan and Charlie who have the back-up and support of BMW, but any privateers would do a lot better on a couple of good 1150Advs - instant saving of several thousand £££££s

No harm in asking for a discount if you ask me. No one on here ever asked for discount?

Anyway if they can afford shiny new bikes why not? They only mentioned that they had to pay full whack and were not having a dig at anyone. So everyone calm down please :)

My view on it is pay for the trip yourself and any money raised should go to the charity. The amount of people that have gone round the world on bikes makes it old news to a lot of people.

Buying 2 new bikes from a dealer should be a bargaining point however and should have been pointed out at the time of the sale and maybe they should have shopped around the dealers.
They may find that the dealers already have a budget give to charities you can only give so much.

Good luck tae the jammy kunts that they are in a position where they can do it.

I would say that they most definately are having a dig (otherwise - why specifically mention the dealer?) , and I don't think anyone is suggesting that a discount shouldn't have been sought.
