Gents, a word of advice please. I need to change a fork seal but didnt get far through Steptoe's "how to" guide. The 14 mm top nut is starting to round off, even with a hex rather than a bi-hex-it hasnt been moved for years. Before I manage to completely strip it, any thoughts on how I might get the wretched thing off?

Do it from the bottom rather if you have issues, pull the lower leg off:beerjug:

I've put a load of plusgas on it but a plan B might be handy-Welshman, how do you do it from below?

Remove wheel spindle, caliper, wheel etc, loosen lower forkbridge to fork slider, find that the two are fused together in your climate, ok sorry maybe bad idea:augie

Get a dremel and grind the nut down to a 13mm, or use some thing like a Gator grip socket. Then replace the nuts for new ones after you get them off. I'm not sure the gator socket would fit in the top yoke as it goes up to 19mm so might be a bit big.

HTH.

dont forget to bleed with the little screw on top after otherwise causes oil to come out the forks whilst riding.
