Sorry if this has been asked & answered before but I've decided that next year's trip will be the clichéd USA coast to coast (due mostly to Mike O's posts) and I'm wondering what I need to do to my 2610/Mapsource v6.3/European City Navigator v6 combination to allow me the same functionality over there that I get over here? Any help gratefully received.

Route 666?

The 1st step would be to get the route number right.:goof

Your best course of action would be to purchase CitySelect North America. This product is reasonably inexpensive (list price USD $139.00, street price USD $120.00) and it will provide you with full autorouting capability on both your GPSR and your PC.

You don't really have to buy CityNavigator North America, which is the equal of the cartography you have on your European 2610. The functional differences between CityNavigator and CitySelect are very, very small (you almost need to be a techie to notice them), and visually, the two products are identical.

Best to not buy the cartography until just before you need it - say, a month ahead of time, maximum. For planning purposes, get the large-scale Michelin paper maps of the USA - there are 3 of them. If you visit the travel web sites of the different States that you plan to visit, you will find that most of them have a form you fill in to request travel information, and they will send you an official state map free of charge.

It's probable that a 512 meg data card will hold just about all the maps you will need for a single trip, but if you want to be on the safe side, buy a 1 gig CF card, and for sure that will hold every map you will need for your trip.
