I'm travelling back from Garmisch and staying overnight in Interlaken next month, can anyone suggest a scenic route, avoiding tolls if possible, back up to Calais? I'm going to stop overnight somewhere in France on the way up, maybe around the Reims area, any suggestions for a B&B would be most appreciated too. Thanks :thumb2

I am sure others will know more, what I can tell you is your a bit too far north for any major Alps passes to be included.

You could run in a straight line towards Belfort and cross through the Vosges and take in Col du Ballon (draw a line from Belfort to Epinal and it is sort of along there in the Vosges)

From there going Epinal to Saint Dizier on the minor routes should be quite pleasant and from there up to Reims, or you could head a bit further and stop on the banks of the River Meuse at Two Wheel Moorings

Thanks Rasher, that looks like a good route :thumb2

I'l drop a line to Two Wheel Moorings and see if they can fit us in.

A big thumbs up for Two Wheel Moorings :thumb2 We stayed there overnight on the way down and then on the way back up from Garmisch, and were made very welcome. Thanks for the tip, Rasher :thumb

Your welcome, it is a great value place to stay, going back again for the fith year in a row next year.

We try to get a couple of nights there normally and go and take in some of the WW1 sites, there is also a large number of trails in the region.

Yes, we might stay a couple of nights next time to do the area justice, there's plenty to see if you're interested in WW1.
