Rox Riser questions

I currently have 40mm straight bar risers fitted to my 21 GSA. I would like the bars raising a bit more and moving towards me and it looks like the 2 inch Rox Pivot risers are the ones to fit.
I have two questions for those that have fitted them

QUESTION 1 - LOWER BOLT TIGHTENING

If you look at the pic below you will see that the BMW clamping arrangement is not symetrical, ie it is not the type where the intention is to have equal gaps each side of the clamp. On the pic the left hand side is the front of the bike and the clamp faces are designed to come hard together when bolt is tight, and the bar clamping force is applied by the rear bolt that must have a gap when fully tightened. So the procedure is tighten front bolts first (bars will still turn) then tighten the rear bolts to required torque to nip the bars in a pinching action rather than a clamping action
So my question is - when fitting the Rox Risers and you have the bars where you want them can you get to the rear lower bolts to tighten them when the Riser is tilted back as it looks like its difficult.

QUESTION 2 - CABLE ROUTING

To achieve full lock, I understand the forks need dropping to allow the brake and clutch hoses to sit outside the fork tubes instead of inside.
Those that have done this, are you happy with the new hose positions, ie are things sitting as well as they were previously on the inside of the fork tubes

I fully understand your concerns as I had exactly the same concerns on my previous machine (Triumph Explorer 1200) when I came to fit Rox Risers - getting the bolts done up was how can I say "awkward" to say the least and I was never happy with the fitment, so took them off.

Instead I fitted SW-Motech Bar backs, these are exactly the same dimension and adjustment-wise as Rox, but (IMO) these fit much better as you can readily get to each of the bolts to tighten them to the correct torque.

I haven't fitted either of these to my (now) R1250GS as I fitted a set of the Wunderlich risers to bring the bars up and back instead, but if you want to have the variable adjustment that Rox give, then maybe consider the Motech Bar backs as well.

I have the Rox up n back risers, it’s not that difficult as long as you have the position of them fully back.
From the seated position, tighten the lower two closest to you fully down to the required torque setting. Then swivel the riser fully back (you will still be able to move them.) then do up the two furthest away to the set torque. This will leave you with a gap at the front pair of bolts. You should have enough room as long as you use a long torx socket. Then just fit the clap on the top side of the risers with the gap to the rear. Had mine on for 3 years without any movement from them.

Doing the hose lines was pretty simple too, I just tied them up loosely with cable ties a bit further up, and once happy with the position, tightened the ties a bit more, but not so much they don’t move about. Seems to work fine.

Thanks Dave N.
What you say makes sense and pulling down the rear of the clamp first has worked for you to get the Rox Riser pivot tightened.
My concern was that BMW have machined the clamp faces at different heights (see my pic) so that the front bolts pull the clamp faces together and the rear bolts apply the clamping force leaving the 'pinch gap'. As you say its is possible to pull the rear faces together instead and clearly has worked for you.

Ah, I see what your concern is. Just had a look, mine is the same (higher front clamp. Without taking it apart, the holes on the Rox risers must be big enough to allow some wiggle room, and allow the bolt to go straight in the thread without bending and stripping it. If I was to buy another set, to be honest, I’d probably get the fixed up and back wunderlich ones. Nothing wrong with the Rox, I just didn’t use the adjustability of them.
Cheers
