Guys,

I have just taken ownership of a 2012 RT 1200 SE, and riden 300 miles withe the same to do in the morning.

I like everything about the bike apart from the seat, it's fitted with the heated low seat, and my arse doesn't agree with it. I'm 6ft,does the standard seat have more cushioning?

Can anyone offer there knowledge on the BMW comfort seat and the Sargent one...

thanks
Chris...

IMO I thought the standard height seat on my 2010 was rubbish after 100 miles or so. My other bikes an 1150 GS and I had that modded with decent foam and widened as far as the seat pan would allow. Tried that with the RT but just didn't work. GS pan and RT are very different. RT much smaller. Strange considering the RT's the one that you should be able to spend hours in the saddle.

Now I've got a Sargent and love it. Done several 500 mile plus days on it. Just don't notice it really but I guess thats what it should be like. Sargent doesn't look as good as the original but who cares? Maybe thats why BMW put this seat on the RT; it's pretty.

BUT.......................................we all have different arrises. Whats good for me might not work for somebody with a different shape posterior.
However it does seem that the best way to get day long comfort is (unfortunately) to get the flattest widest seat you can a) afford and b) reach the ground comfortably. Don't forget that seat height to ground means bog all if one seat is like the one on Bradley Wiggins' bike and the other would look more at home on a Massey Ferguson.

I had my standard seat recovered with some additional padding at a very reasonable price by CM Custom Seats in Coventry.
It made a world of difference and they look great

I have the comfort seat and when I talk out my arse which is frequent, it says yes!

It was Melvyn at CM that did my GS 12 years ago. Seats still good. Did same mod to RT seat. Just didn't work for me.

Hope I did upload right:nenau

RT front is Sargent, rear is modded standard by CM Coventry.

GS front is modded standard also by CM.

I was happy with my standard GS seats but I was younger then :rob
Can't speak too highly of service and cost for RT seats. Not sure these photos do them justice

Tried a Sargent on mine and didn't find it much better than the standard one: Unless I sat right back on it to get on the wider section (not good for my pillion) it wasn't any better. Never tried a low seat so can't comment on the padding, or lack of...

I bought a standard seat off ebay and had it padded out by Tony Archer in Huddersfield. Extra padding under the front part to put more weight on my thighs which therefore takes weight off the lower back. Only slight issue is that the seat is the same height on the low setting as the normal seat on the high setting.

Definite improvement with a BMW comfort seat. Longest day done is about 460 miles (Europort to Neumarkt in der posfeld)

I had a Sergeant seat on both of my RT's and they were fantastic. 10-12 hour days in the saddle were no problem at all.
The 1st thing I bought for my GSA was a replacement Sargeant seat. I'm hoping it proves to be an equally sound investment.

I've a Sargent seat and I cant praise it highly enough. I recently completed the RBLR 1000 mile ride which we did in 20hrs and the seat was superb.
I find the standard seat uncomfortable after just a hundred miles or so but everyone's different of course :nenau
