RT Navigator 5 question

I believe it is possible but requires a dermal or the like to cut a hole in the thing where the in Jack socket would be on a 660 !

Not advisable in my opinion

It isnt possible without some intermediate device to convert Bluetooth audio to hardwire connection

Thanks for the replies, lots of searching on the net seems to indicate it is possible but not without rewiring, drilling, change of mount, lose the use of the control wheel, thanks BMW. Seems to be you pay a lot more for a Navigator 5 and receive a lot less in the way of flexibility and accessories.

I bought a Nav 5 for my '09 RT; the mount it came with had 2 plugs on it. One to go into the loom for power, the other doesn't do anything on my bike. I assume it would plug into the audio system if I had one.

Given there are 18 contacts on the back of the unit corresponding to 18 on the dock I would assume audio is already available, you need to find the right pins and maybe it is the mount that needs a mod, not the Navigator.

from memory the cables are

power
audio in
audio out
and the other with a plug in it...can't remember what it does though...sorry

As far as I can tell the Navigator 5 cradle has two connections, one is power from the canbus and the other seems to connect to the bike and allows the control wheel on the left handlebar to operate the satnav. The garmin mount connections are totally different and have the audio out etc but no control wheel option. Plugged in a Starcom bluetooth dongle today and that appears to be working.

I have a car mount for the NAV 5 which has an audio speaker so audio out must be on the connections at the rear of the NAV 5

The Nav 5 will fit on the 660 cradle and get power from the bike

But electronically the Nav 5 has no audio out feature. None of the pins on the 660 cradle will give you that. The Nav 5 just isnt wired up to do that

Its designed to work with the bike and Bluetooth and that's your lot

Other that using the thumb controller (which is pretty cool i think) the 660 is a lot better spec'd device than the Nav-5 for less money.

If only the 660/665 could work with the thumb controller, maybe a software update, I'd ditch the Nav-5 in a heartbeat

Sadly Garmin have no plans in that regard :(

Begs the question; how does the speaker in the optional automotive mount get signal & power, as it has no cable input. (Power is supplied via Nav V, which is in turn powered through USB port when in the car. Very backward).

It wont work with the 660 Mount. BUT the BMW CAR mount has built in speaker and microphone so audio DOES come out of the connections on the back of the NAV 5. They do need to be amplified to drive speaker though.
