I am sure that this should be in the wanted section, but thought more likely to get a response here. After 13 years of GSing, picked up a twin cam 1200 RT yesterday. Takes a bit of getting used to not having my head battered around after many attempts and a load of money on "solutions", wish I had discovered this years ago. Anyway - I am looking for a BMW Tank Bag - or one that fits onto the rack - not a stroppy type. Anyone here got one. I would be happy to swap it for my BMW GSA bag - on the sale and wanted at the moment - excellent nick and comes with velcro.

Nice move; the RT is a great bike.

Sorry, I don't have a tankbag to sell or exchange, but just a suggestion...
I use a Touratech "Flat" tankbag on my RT. It's much smaller then the BMW one, and doesn't intrude at all. Still plenty big enough for documents, drinks, gloves, maps, etc., and it's on/off in 2 seconds.
Don't forget; you now have a glovebox and loads of underseat storage before you even need to start using proper luggage :thumb

+ 1 for the TT tankbag, much better than the BMW one.
Bigger and flat map pocket, great bit of kit.

I've got a BMW tank bag and it's a fecking ball ache. It's far too big and intrusive.
I'm currently in Switzerland on an 11 day trip and the tank bag's sat on top of the wardrobe at home which says it all.

I find mine is perfect when not expanded, but expanded it can be intrusive.

But for the additional volume and (from memory) 5kg capacity its worth it.

Thanks for the advice chaps, coming from the GSA to the RT is a bit of a shock from a luggage and tent point of view. Love the bike and I need to get pannier liners etc and tank bag of some sort by next weekend when I am off on my holidays.

Twice I have left mine on top of the petrol pumps after refueling. Once just north of Fort William (still on top of the pump when I returned half an hour later) and the last time south of Orleans France. I was a good 40 kilometres down the road when I noticed that I wasn't looking at my map, just the tank rack !!. Arriving back at the village petrol station after an illegal blast back north I was dismayed not to see it on top of the pump. Then the young lad in the pay booth appeared tankbag in hand. Pheeeew that was a close one. Now SHMBO takes personel charge of the bag at every fuel stop. !!
Any other ideas to prevent it happening again appreciated.

Seriously?

Just put it right by the sidestand- and put it back right away, before you go to pay. There's nothing simpler than reattaching the BM RT tankbag :rob

I unhook it so that it is upside down on the seat.

Fill up tank.

Put tank bag back on.

Go pay.

Simples:nenau

Yes Roberto, I'm afraid I am serious and it probably has something to do with being the wrong side of 60. I wouldn't want to put it on the ground though, that's why I put it on the pump. No argument as to to simplicity of re-fitting it to the rack, your right there.
