Got to AJ's and noticed that my BRAND NEW! Evo 6 helmet as a deep scratch on the back. Couldn't figure out where it had come from although I ruled out my mates suggestion of me being a dick head and dropping it....OK maybe the DH part may be valid

'Anyway' arriving home I gave it a little more inspection and found the culprit. Inside the top box there's a load of screws and two of the blighters are quite prominent and if your not taking notice (i.e. dick head mode) the screws will catch the helmet and Bob's your uncle or auntie depending on his disposition

Soooo anyone out there with this top box....TAKE CARE.

ring ring …ring ring ….hello ? " is that BMW customer service ? i want some action taking please because …… yes its ruined my BMW helmet ….what will you do about it please ?

THE BOX ON MY 2012 RT HAS NO SCREWS StICKING OUT

Not the New type as also fitted to the 1600, the Old type. I've not taken any notice before and never marked my helmet BUT it looks like if you don't put it in, in a certain way, you will catch these screws.

This happened to me some while ago. Never posted it though. It was on a vario pannier. Whoever put it together must have slipped with the screwdriver which left a very sharp edge on the screwhead. Mentioned it to dealer who swapped my helmet for a brand new one.

Filled the rough edges off the screws and covered with gaffa tape, never happened again.

Thanks everyone for their input. Going to ask my dealer if there is any chance of an exchange as 'although' the box is from my last bike (twin cam RT) I only owned it a few months before I exchanged it for the LC. You think they (BMW) would have seen this problem. Is the Evo helmet bigger and too tight to fit in the top box without catching these screws ?

I can only try.
