I have just changed the drive shaft on my 07 GS and I was wondering if there a knack or trick to getting the rubber gaiter on at the gearbox end? I can get the rubber bit on but not the plastic bit that clips into the swinging arm all at the same time. I really dont want to remove the swinging arm because A- i dont have the slide hammer and B-I dont have the tool for the other side
all offers of help greatfully received

3mm Allen key held in mole grips.

You can get the top half on easy enough, then, at the bottom, use Allen key to hook and pull the gaiter on, been there, done it.

Roger.

Bike still up on the main stand? I had the same problem.

Attach it on the gearbox side.

Get the bike off the stand and sit on it you will compress the gaitor. You should now be able to get the platic clip to clip into the driveshaft end.

I struggled for ages will also sorts of screwdrivers but could not get it to seat completely.

Yes that sounds like a plan. It is the bottom that is causing the trouble also I seem to have fingers like pigs tits today

I've recently replaced my gaiter on the HP2 - there's even less room :blast

Ended up taking off the swingarm, and then glueing the gaitor to the swingarm (plastic clip kept getting knocked off during installation).

Luckily the gearbox side of gaitor just pushed itself into place after liberally applying the gaitor and lip with gease. :thumb

No special tools were used in taking swing arm off - but you'll need a long drift.

Many thanks for the replies. I dropped the rear shock off and moved the swinging arm up as far as it could go and popped it back in after a lot of swearing and a vast array of tools, hooks, long slender thingys etc that would not look out of place in a back street abortionist.
