I'd like to be able to run the Browser and Mail from a USB Stick. I know it's possible, but anyone here have any experience of this.

What do you use: Firefox Portable (or is it Mpbile), or Opera ?

Is it a reliable and more importantly usable way of accessing the web and mail ?

thanks
Aaron

reliable / usable ..yes
how you do it depends on why you want to do it ... leaving no trace on a work PC?.. Just want to take your favourites with you?... Travelling using internet cafe? want proxy'd anonymous browsing

if you use a U3 drive it can also be secure - (no-one can access the USB drive without a password)
http://www.u3.com/

a lot of the common sw is free to download... firefox... skype etc

non u3 route is "portableapps"

same but different
you can have portable apps on a u3 drive

I used to use Skype a lot when it was on our company ban list of installed sw... run it off a USB ... jobs a good un

Really I'm after having my favourites, skype, mail and docs on a USB stick. Preferably synced back to the main box.

Both as a backup and and ensuring that I do not leave anything on the client's PC, which has to be a good thing as a contractor.

I like the sound of the proxy'd anonymous browsing, especially as I am trying to figure out the best way to watch the BBC (iPlayer) from Australia. Doubly important as I am desperate for my MotoGP fix.

cheers

I use portable apps version of Firefox and Thunderbird every day for hours on end with no trouble, have done for years, reliability is down to the USB stick not the Apps which are stable.

In addition I have created a secure partition on the USB stick using TruCrypt, I run the portable apps from this partition so it's all secure.

Best bit is it's all free.

Brilliant solution when you're on the move.
