Running in a GS

Does it really matter what oil WAS in the bike? It's never going to have that oil in again so WTF!!!
But if you really want to know something that is utterly pointless.....it was mineral oil, could be 10/40 or 10/50 I don't care.
Or perhaps you should have it analized by a Russian Nuclear Scientist and post the finding so we can all wonder in amazement at what oil WAS in your bike!
Answers on a pin please :comfort

Thanks for your answer PJ. :thumb

Balders, F**ck off Dick head. I did'nt ask you prick. If you think that the question was below you then just go away. :pullface

Perhaps you should start your posts with a list of people that you do wish to answer your questions :nenau

Then you should only get answers you want to hear.

I couldn't agree more!!:thumb2

Ok...... so you got a sarcastic answer, what did you expect? Without sounding
flippant, even I think the question is utterley pointless, so are you going to tell me to "F**ck" off?

What you should have done in the first place is.....

1-search the posts
2-:rtfm
3-ask another dealer who actually knows more than yours does
4-go to tesco for some chill pills :ymca2

My 2p's worth....

I think the OP hasn't done anything wrong by asking a question, pointless or not.

Ok, so he was quick off the mark with his rebuff, and a little volatile on his second post at Balders....but he asked a question, and replied politely and thanked everyone for their efforts...I can't see he can be faulted much to his approach to his thread.

....but I think Balders was a little retaliatory with his entry into the second debate, and this will often cause a reaction 9 times out of ten...I have been drawn into this a few times myself. :augie

I think the thing is....

....this is a great site...can be a great help to us all...

....let's keep it a happy playground for us all, play nice together, and have a site that's always worth a visit. :thumb

Seriously I just rode my bike from day one as normal, now on 31k miles and only gets better with time :beerjug:

Motors, gearboxes have initial wear hence the reason they change the oil the first 600 miles. Everything needs to bed in before it supposedly can run on synthetic stuff.

A reasonable question

Again
To those have taken the time to be sensible and to answer a perfectly logical question

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWERS AN SUPPORT.

and to those that think that they might be to cleaver to bother with a reasonable answer,
Well I have already said all I need to say to you, who ALL for some strange reason seem to be from Scotland.
(I suspect that, that should raise a debate on its own)

One last point that I am sure that I am right in saying, please correct me if I am wrong.
You are not obliged to answer a thread just because you might have read it.
And YES it is going to be nice to have noelrobertson on this site.

Indeed, And to offer my view on the oil question:

The first 600 miles (mainly the first 100) is when loads of tiny bits of metal get worn off the engine internals, especially the bores. You dump the oil fast to get rid of the swarfy bits, 'Running in oil' is simple mineral stuff - helps the process better than super slippery synthetic stuff.

A few engine fanatics I know will do oill changes at the firt 100 and 300 miles too.

I was gobsmacked that the first oilchange my BMW120D had was at 20,000 miles:eek: but seemed to do fine. Must have quite a filter.

I don't think the question was stupid or has been answered fully. The question wasn't what is "running in oil" but what is it in context with a BMW motorbike. Is this a term used to describe the first oil that an engine has or is it in fact a different type of oil?
