2007 R1200RT Footpeg hanger

What is the best way to make this look new again? Any advice on what to spray/paint it with? etc

(nobody seems to read the RT forum hence I will get a better response here)

thanks all

It's aluminium coated with uber tough tough stuff. Corrosion will be worse than it looks. It cant be grit blasted without harming the alloy underneath. Get it dip stripped at a wheel refurb company and have it powder coated. If it's badly pitted, clean out the corrosion fluff, etch prime, fill and paint. Helicopter tape will help protect from boot scratches.

Get an aluminium wheel refurb company to do it. They will be able to match the silver and will probably sand blast and powder coat it.

I had my engine front cover powder coated. Unfortunately the corrosion pits were so deep it “offgassed” in the curing oven. It’s acceptable because the rough area is hidden but not ideal.
See what the refurb guys have to say after it’s been dipped.

It can be glass blasted then vapour blasted then depending on depth of pits it can be fethered out and polished....i can send you some photos over of things I've done on my bikes ..... owe someone a favour on this site as a wonderful gent sent me a 1150 ABS pump for my son's GSA... so in good spirits this service will be free... and hopefully people will do the same.....

Exactly what that says above .... to the letter!

It might be less hassle/more cost effective just to source a replacement hanger from a breakers?

To be fair to bushwhacked from Yorkshire he did make the Uber-generous offer to send a photo by way of repaying the favour of an abs pump.

Yorkshire at its finest!

Btw, it would seem that bendy and tunner DO know what they are talking about.

Someone suggested an alloy wheels refurb company. Sound perfect to me.

Send both sides to a wheel refurb company. They probably wont charge much more for two than for one (wheels are much bigger). When done you'll have a matched pair.

Yeah, I had thought of that but the right hand side one is not as bad and it looks harder to remove as its all joined up with the brake lever

You are stuck if you need the bike but stripping it down anyway makes sense as threads get corroded. Left for too long they can be a nightmare. Use lots of copper anti seize all the way up when you refit it all.

The left side might have suffered more because of boot marks. When it’s refinished, some helicopter tape over the affected areas might help.

PS if you have the old type rear master cylinder (thin rubber dust cover) they get corroded inside and will cause the back brake to lock on. Later types have a much better bellows type cover.
