My new Airhead has a big fully floaty disc.
The bike lives outside under a cover.
Why does it go rust coloured in a matter of a day or two?
None of my other bikes did this fast, no real issue as it clears after a short ride.
Just wondered really.

Not a stainless one, but higher cast iron content?

Many cars now seem to have discs that show rust a lot quicker than usual, probably down to the can't use asbestos in the brake pads. James May found the problems of not using his Porsche enough to get rid of the rust, a new set of disks after a year or so IIRC at around £1000

Buy the disc a shed or sell the bike to me

I'll give you £2000 cash and then I can attend the Proff weekend

its trying to keep up with the rest of the bike

Cast iron discs (or at least a higher iron content).

Bit of a trade off - works better for actual braking, but prone to rusting. I had a Jota who's discs used to be bright orange after a few hours, but it cleaned off the first time you used them - good brakes too (for the time).

DOH'HHH @ Trippy:blast

FFS you TIT !!! :augie it's a far superior cast iron disc on your bike, thats why it stops :) and as such " they all do that sir", a quick 100yards down the road and it will be just like new

Spiegler?

Just sold a GS with a Spiegler disc and calliper and I had the same discs on my F6C and they went crusty within a couple of hours on a damp day... not even raining.

The work real good though

John

Try putting WD40 on it; that'll stop the rust ... if not the bike :augie
