Rusty nipples

Misfortune lead to me having a front wheel puncture this morning.
However,being not too far from home, it allowed me to return and remove the wheel then by car to my local tyre fitter.

Twenty mins later tube replace with a heavy duty type and wheel rebalanced.

On a sour note, comment was passed on my Rusty Nipples , which given the bike is only 6 month old, has covered less that 1000 miles and regularly washed and Scottoil FS365 applied I am sadden with

Has anyone else encountered this issue and would it be a warranty claim ?

They all do that, Sir.

Mine are the same and it's been commented on before on this august site.

Personally, I think that if you did get them done as a warranty job you'd be back in 6 months getting them done again.

Unless you sourced some S/S ones?

Mine are just staying rusty.

I agree with both of you, the bikes for riding and enjoyment and not worrying over a little tarnishing.

While the bike still works just fine with rusty bits and most of us just accept it, I think it is pretty poor that a German brand that built it's reputation through quality/durability now rusts in a few months and minimal miles while a jap bike would look like new. It's dissapointing but not the end of the world.

Certainly worth asking for warranty replacements but if you do get them, they will (as mentioned before) rust just as quickly. Nice while they last though.

I had problems with rusty nipples on my front rim of my 650GS (thumper). It was only the front, back rim had no rust. I got the front rim replaced on warranty and never had any problems with rust after that.

So talk to your dealer. You might have nipples from a bad batch. On my 800GS i have no problem with rust on the nipples.
