Hi there.

Does anybody know where I can buy a set of of stainless steel spokes for my S10 in the UK? Bought new in March 12, I love this bike, but despite not yet going through a UK winter, the spokes are very corroded. Yamaha have offered to replace them but it seems pointless to put on another set of the same stock spokes.

I know from reading various threads on the web, and from talking to Yamaha staff at Motorcycle Live, that this is a known issue with the S10, so I imagine somebody has already swapped in stainless steel spokes. Any advice gratefully received.

Many thanks

A good friend of mine had his spokes replaced with stainless by Keith Dixon Motorcycles in Accrington. Give him a ring. He's a great guy who will probably be able to supply them or put you in contact with someone who can. If you do ring, probably best to try and speak to Keith himself.

No affiliation to Keith Dixon's except as a satisfied customer.

Hope this helps.

Just a thought. If Yamaha are prepared to replace the spokes the warranty must include the costs of rebuilding the wheel. If you provide your own stainless spokes to your dealer Yamaha should cover the cost of the wheel rebuild and save you some pennies.

Thanks all.

Yes Yamaha will pay to have the wheels rebuilt, but only with the same (nickel coated?) spokes as on the stock bike. That's pointless as i know they will corrode again. Yamaha claim that they cannot source SS spokes, but the dealer will fit them if I can locate them.

ACF 50 - I had the bike professionally done with ACF 50 in March 12, 3 days after I picked it up from the dealer. Was done professionally a second time in November - in fact it was the ACF 50 guy who pointed out the corrosion the 2nd time. So ....... ACF 50 will not deter corrosion on these spokes.

Will give Hagon and Keith Dixon's a try.

Thanks again everybody.

It's not corrosion, it's patina. Stop washing the rest of the bike and they will look the part. Works for me.

I would assume you could change them yourself if you do them one by one and torque them properly.

Mine are fine, but if they went I would probably just pay someone like Hagon to do the whole job, probably end up with a better than new wheel.
