S10 test ride.

Wet weight of a standard GS is 229kg and the GSA is 256kg. Wet weight of the Super Ten is 261kg, so the Super Ten is heavier than both. Tank capacity of the standard GS is 20 litres, not 19.

My mistake, BMW claim 19 useable litres, perhaps the Yamaha only has 22 Useable litres - never ran mine low enough, but the extra 3-4 litres makes for a handy increase of about 40 miles between stops, the GS would sometimes run out before I did, especially on motorways where 80+ mph cruising can have the light on at 140 miles, the S10 always manages at least 2 hours of motorway before looking for fuel.

As for weight, the Yamaha "feels" considerably lighter than the GSA, and in reality may be a bit lighter....

Actual weight (Wet): 268kg's

BMW GS 1200

KTM 990 Adventure

BMW quote weights dry with no battery, oil, tool kit, ABS, TC, Heated Grips, handlebars, wheels - KTM seem to go a bit further and quote sans-engine.

I quite fancy the KTM if Mrs Monty could get used to the cramped passenger seat, but I will have a browse at the NEC and see what excites.

Got me green with envy, love the new KTM :thumb

Would rather hang on to S10 and save for another bike, although now the Mrs has her own bike I have more options open to me - best I avoid the NEC or I may end up in dept....

I too have a habit of getting rid of a perfectly good motorcycle that does everything I need and has had a fortune thrown at perfecting it.

Your S10 will be a bargain for someone :thumb

Monty, make me a promise. When you come to sell it make me your first port of call/email, as I'm told you look after your bikes, and by the time you sell it SUE BODGITT & SCARPER PLC should have paid me my compensation.

By the way did you know you can practise wheelies on the s10 for well over an hour before the clutch starts to smell funny/warm. On a runway, err deffo not the public highway , no sirreeeee...

Can you f*ckin believe this.guy. Allegedly anyway

I do look after my bikes and they get an easy life with me at the controls. The S10 is pretty much as new. I would probably sell the parts separately unless I got a sensible offer for the whole lot.

Any time after October I would part with her as I don't ride much in the cooler months these days. It will be a sad day though as she has been the cheapest to run, most trouble free bike I have owned.

My 6000 mile service was about tuppemce at the main dealer. :)

Come to the NEC! I will be helping on the Gasthof Hochslmspitze stand over the first weekend and it would be good to catch up. :)

Where do BMW claim 19 useable litres? More of your rubbish? But then your were never very good when it came to the facts.

That's not how the S10 felt when I test rode it, it didn't feel any lighter than my GSA.

Bullshit, the weights quoted are wet with fuel, oil and battery. The GSA weight I quoted is for the 2013 model which has ABS as standard. Same as the weight quoted for the Yamaha which won't include heated grips or anything else which is an option.

Monty, dont want an 09 2000 mile old CBF1000 with heated grips power socket satnav ABS and topbox, all in gleaming undamaged pearlescent white do ya?????? Bugger, thought not.......:blast

I do like them, but to honest I would rather have the cash for whatever new and shiny beast takes my fancy. I will post a for sale advert at some point. :)

The point is when someone stuck the bikes on a weighbridge both the BMW's were well over the BMW quote, regardless of if they quoted it with a 30 stone German on-board it is still heavier in a like-for-like-weigh-in.

Not sure where I heard about the useable fuel limit, but sure somewhere there was mention of tank holding a litre that never comes out, may be it is 20 useable, and having run out on other bikes with a fair bit sloshing in the bottom of the tank I am fairly certain many bikes will not drain down to the last drop - I always knock 1L off, so on my Yam I know I can get about 40 miles on the fuel light with 1-2L "left", and do not trust that last litre or so to be "available"

Regardless the bike has a bigger tank, unless of course BMW litres are bigger than Yamaha litres just like BMW Kilograms are lighter than Yamaha Kilograms :D
