Today's problem with my iPad is that I can't even enter anything in the search bar that comes up when I press the + symbol at the top right hand corner of the screen, as soon as I enter the first letter in the search bar the screen crashes and reverts to that first screen that appears when I switch on (I mean the one that comes up with the wallpaper and all the various icons on when I start up).

I can still use the favourites that come up as normal, but that's all. When it does crash and revert to the start screen I can go straight back into Safari and carry on as normal on the screen I was using before pressing the + symbol. What can I do? Please. :(

I got the same problem on my Macbook Pro version of Safari today. Fixed it by going into Safari Preferences, selected Search and unchecked all the Smart Search Field options. Also had problems today on iPhone but fixed by deleting history.

Haven't got an iPad so not sure what will work but deleting history is always a good start.

Interesting, thanks. Mine started playing up a couple of hours ago after I clicked on a link to "Free Rauf Badawi" in the B & Bollocks on here. Following your suggestion I have deleted the 'recent history' for the last few days but the problem is still there.

PS, I've just realised that it's just the same when I try to overwrite the existing entry in the search bar at the top of the current page (thats "ukgser.com” at the moment, of course), it crashes as soon as I enter the first letter, reverting again to the start page.

odd.

starting just now, i can no loner enter anything into my imac safari address bar, or if i can sometimes, when i hit enter, it does nothing

also there appears to be two addresses showing in the address bar that are superimposed on top of each other.

quitting/restarting safari does zilch.

Same here, but I found that if I opened a second page, it would let me type on that one. :nenau
First time I've had a problem with my ipad in three years.

Two ipads in our house, bug effects 1 not the other, how strange is that , both have the latest 9.2.1 update.

Is 9.2.1 really buggy? I woke up to a gleaming Apple logo on my iPhone 5S and sod all else. I've tried to update it and back it up and got nowhere. It keeps telling me it can't restore the device and gives fault codes of 9 or 1671 (the latter, Apple doesn't seem to acknowledge exists). I've spent hours today on the phone to Apple support in Portugal and in the Vodafone shop with really nice, helpful guys but have got absolutely nowhere apart from the option to take it into the Apple shop and exchange it and £190 for another one or upgrade it to a 6S. :(

Safari Bug hit both my devices this morning, no idea why all of a sudden, and it subsequently let me update both devices to iOS 9.2.1 (that didn't fix anything)

Not a fix, but I gave up on Safari years ago...use Chrome across all devices - iOS, Android and Windows. With its automatically replicating bookmarks it actually works cross-platform; if you're on a mobile device it's data saving mode is very useful and the new version (48) for iOS is much much slicker and quicker.
