Safe fuse size for 2610

When I ran the power lead frrom the battery on the 1150 it had an in-line fuse holder, worked the 1st time but when I went to use it yesterday there was no power. I jst checked the fuse and it had blown but it was only 2amp. Does it have to be that small, what size do you fuse your GPS?

The fuse is to protect the wire not the GPS from a thread a long while back.

IIWY I'd try and see if there's any shorts, and if not put a new fuse and see what happens. Fuses can just blow from old age, or if the current rises to quickly, or from vibration etc etc.

Used to run mine with a 2A fuse on the Sprint ST - never had it blow. Perhaps you have a short somewhere? I was told that they don't really need that level of protection and that you can run them with a 5A fuse without any problem.

My 2820 is run straight off the CanBus head-stock socket on the 1200 with no fuse at all - other than whatever protection the CanBus gives it - and has been fine for two and a half years.

According to Gamin's specs the 2610 draws a max of 6 Watts. At 12v, thats only 0.5A.
Try another 2A fuse, but if a new one blows you have a problem somewhere.

my 2620 came with a 1A fuse, check for shorts 1st,mines never blown, i,d be wary of a 5a thou, shud be ok wi canbus tho

No problem, you normally rate an AC fuse by half if you're using it on DC so that would be any voltage less than 125 DC. More to the point, is the speed the fuse reacts, slo-blow to very fast blow which is dependant on it's design duty...

On checking, my Garmin 2820 uses a 1.0 Amp fast blow in the ciggy adapter....
