Can you turn off speed camera alerts on Nav IV? I am going to France and it is a big nick if you are caught with them turned on.

There maybe someone along to correct me but - I think the new IV will only have 'Danger Zones' which are perfectly legal in France. It should be running the latest updates that will have removed camera sites and replaced with danger zones.

Otherwise if you still have camera sites 'per se' then you will have to remove them completely to comply. But the whole thing has calmed right down in France now there is already talk of replacing the warning signs on the road before cameras again.

Hope this helps. Check what you actually have on your unit.

I live in Germany and Garmin offer no safety camera warnings as standard for Germany. Yet go to Holland and Belgium and they immediately start the warnings. I did look at buying the Garmin recommended saftety camera POI database, but when I looked at what the said it covered/offered, it was clear that the database was sparse to say the least.

Can anyone recommend a database wit decent German coverage?

on zumo you can turn off the POIs, as in garmins own alerts database of custom poi (speed cameras)

I do tun off when abroad, just uncheck the boxes....umanned cameras are not an issue anyway!

This procedure worked for me on my Zumo 660 .

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

I am happy to help you with your query. Recently the French government
has issued a law banning the use of safety camera warnings on satellite
navigation products.

If you are planning on using your Garmin GPS device to navigate within
France you will need to make sure that your device is compliant with
this new legislation. For further details please go to http://www.garmin.com/uk/extras-camera-alerts/#france.

Unfortunately the device you have is not compatible with our new Danger
Zone warning system which replaces the Safety Camera alerts. To make
your device compliant with the French Law there are only two actions you
can take.

The first would be simply to disable to Safety Cameras on your device
whilst you are in France and then activate them once you are out of
France. You can see instructions below on how to do this:

1. Switch the device on.
2. Touch Tools/Spanner Icon.
3. Touch Settings (nüvi 600 series and 300 series can skip this step).
4. Touch Proximity Points.
5. Touch Change.
6. Un-tick Custom POIs or Garmin Safety Cameras.

The next option would be to delete the French Safety Cameras from the
device all together. The steps you need to take to do this are below:

1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. Click the Windows Start Icon.
3. Click Computer or My Computer.
4. Double-click on the Garmin drive.
5. Double-click on the Garmin folder.
6. Double-click on the POI folder.
7. Delete any French or France files.

To delete the French Safety Cameras from the device using a Mac, you
will need to follow the below instructions:

1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. Double-click the GARMIN drive on the desktop.
3. Double-click the POI folder.
4. Delete any French or France files.

If you have followed the instructions above then you are now fully
compliant with the French Law.

If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know.

Russ, many thanks for that link. Have just had a quick look and they do seem to have good coverage.
It is not clear if you pay £9.99 per year per person, or per device. But probably cheaper to pay this than be continually flashed in Germany.

My one saving grace is that most cameras in Germany are forward facing, as they have to show a photo with your face showing, but I assume that they will address this "loophole" sooner rather than later

I have purchased the scdb POI files download. And, for Euro 9.95, you can download to multiple devices. Not been out to check how it works yet though.

A couple of questions (as I assume that you have also bought the scdb downloads):

a) How often do you need to update?
b) What procedure do you follow to do an update (there does not appear to be any guidance on the steps to take on the scdb website)?
c) Are you happy with the settings recommended by SCDB?
d) And do the SCDB POI's clash with those on the SCDB database? i.e do you get the same speed camera announced twice (once from the Garmin database and once from SCDB?)

Many thanks for the link though, as it certainly seems to be what I was after
