Managed to do 100 miles on new seat yesterday and i can confirm it is a lot better on the bum than the stock seat. i usually get numb bum after only 40 minutes riding but managed 3 hours on Sunday with no discomfort at all. Result i think. Doing Spain in 3 weeks for 8 days so will let you know what it is like after 500 miles in the saddle.

I'd apprciate the feedback, because seat discomfort is the main complaint I have about the 12GS.

In particular, I find that the front end of the seat does not slope up enough against gas tank, hence I slide forward unpleasantly.

Has anyone found the ideal replacement seat ???

If you've got the seat on the low setting, try putting it up. The front lifts more than the back so it might help you keep off the tank.

Alternative Seat

Contact Melvin Hunter at www.customseats.co.uk

They specialise in gel seats and can profile a seat to suit your precise needs. Made a great job of mine and I'd certainly recommend. Do a search on the subject and you'll find a number of references to 'Melvined' seats

You can either have your existing seat re-profiled or obtain another and have that one modified. A good source for a damaged (and therefore cheap!!) seat which you can send to Melvin might be Bath Road BMW (Bristol) - they refurbish the machines used by the BMW Off-Road folks in Wales

Good luck :thumb

Had mine done last year by Melvin and it was worse than the standard...

I`ve just had my GS 12 seats re worked and heated ! by Baerhr. Motorrad Concepts arranged the work etc. The workmanship is first class and looks are improved in my opinion..... :D ..
The comfort is improved and comes with a slight rise in the rear of the riders seat, this is very comfortable and secure. In these winter temp`s the heated bit is much appreciated and easy to control with a variable toggle switch on the bars. I would very much recommend these to anyone looking a a seat enhancement. For up to date pictures and more info check out the MC and

I agree with Trip, in the low setting the seat was uncomfortable when switched to the high setting, all was fine :thumb

Shep :bounce1

I'm not that tall, but I'll try that especially on longer rides where comfort is the issue.

In the meantime, I have bought 3 bicycle gel seat covers at 9 euros a pieces , and I'll try a cunning assembly which I plan to strap around the saddle with rubberised belts.

May not work at all, but not a big investment.

I'll post pictures if it works.

I had the same problem (too much of a slope) with the standard seat. even though I could reach the ground ok with it in high I didn't like the position in relation to the bars. Used it in the low position most of the time. After 7000 mls it had become softer but still not comfortable.

So I changed it for the low seat. Much better shape, (flatter) though not prefect, still a bit hard but i'm expecting it to become softer with use like the standard seat did.

Still thinking about a custom job on the old one. I'll see how it is in the summer.

Just done 2400 miles around Spain and Gib i am very pleased with the Sargent seat. 550 miles one day and it is definately superior to the stock seat. Still get a bit of discomfort but nowhere near as before with stocker. Worth the money i thinks.

I agree that the Sargent seat is fine for me having done 300 mile days.

My wife however refused to sit on the pillion as she dislikes the bucket shaping. It stops her moving forward for a change of position.

Now she has done 600 miles on the stock seat and got a sore arse, she is willing to try it again though, especially as I was fine.

:mmmm

Hi
I usually get a numb bum after 40 miles, in Hell after a 100 :spitfire :(

The standard seat pan is to flexible probably why it is more comfortable
In the high setting than the low, (the height of the seat pan off the frame rails stops some of the vibration from getting through)

I’ve had a standard seat, a Melvin Hunter & one made locally all slightly better than the last.

To be fair to the seats I am big, very big, :dabone

The last Corbin seat I had was great on my 1100gs & 1150gs,
So I’ve got a new Corbin seat, the seat is great.
I’ve not had a long enough ride yet only 150 miles
but it is like a new bike with no vibrations, my bum is in heaven :thumb :thumb :thumb :thumb :thumb
