I tried this utility on a "test" PC yesterday and it failed. I get a notice informing me that Windoze XP needs to be registered within 30 days. If I try to register it, the MicroSuck utility says that the registration failed.

Bugger. At least it was a test PC, the wifes maybe?

Found out what the problem was. You can't use this on an OEM version of XP Pro. So I "tested" it on another non-OEM version, works a treat.

didn't know I needed one, still don't. and I ride airheads, so I can take things apart, add bits to them and keep them running when newer, more stylish things fall apart.

That's a good point. Windowz - the computing equal of an allotment - never a moment when there isn't something you need to weed/grub up/re plant/fill with more maneure - it's a life filling product.

The Mac smugness should be fast disappearing anyway (unless in true Mac owner style they've got their eyes closed) 'cos there are more and more viruses appearing for them- if you haven't got AV software, you should get some

Until Macs can fully run all windows apps (Inc GPS software) and games, they remain the toys of those who like the fashion and what they see as one-upmanship

What viruses? I'm still on XP Pro, although I am thinking about a Mac for a change later in the year (neither of my machines will run Vista as both are about 5 years old and need updating - not that I'd go for Vista anyway ), but all I've seen are reports of proofs of concept, no actual viruses running wild

And from what I've read, if you're moving from a Windows XP SP2 machine and keeping the legitimate OS disk, then you can do *most* of the Windowsy things using Parallels, with more coming on-stream as new versions of the virtual machine are released.
