After getting a poor response from Cannon BMW (see sep post) on an out-of-warranty issue I took the bike to SBW who were polite, helpful and efficient.

They asked BMW for a goodwill payment to replace my faulty handlebar switch unit which was duly agreed. Total cost of repair: £20 for labour.

In fact they were so impressive I traded in my 2005 GS for a 2007 one from them!

Out of interest, how much out of warranty were you? - I have a simlar issue. - I bought my bike from SBW, 2nd hand at 18 months old. It's coming up to 3yrs in March and the timing cover is corroded to f**k. I havent really got round to following it up as I didn't think I had much hope, but the problem is definately something that started within the warranty period and I would expect an engine cover to be a lifetime part under normal use. I never really noticed it too much when I bought it. :( - Did they take much persuading?
Cheers.

SWB

have to say their sales team werent very impressive, my son is looking to buy a new 1200 and wanted a test drive, despite being 20 he has car, full unrestricted bike and HGV licence, and they wouldnt entertain a test ride. Park lane were no problem, so he went there instead, looks like they will probably get his money instead.

The switch failed six months after my two-year warranty ran out. I only had to ask them once if they would put it to BM as a goodwill issue.

I wasn't too impressed either, took ages to get it all sorted but I did get a ride out (but I'm 31). Wouldn't budge an inch on price for used, couldn't match Cannon for the new deal. Popped back to Cannon and 500 quid off a bike they'd knocked down in price already. I know they weren't giving it away but altogether a friendlier experience for purchasing. I haven't had a paid for service yet, but the one my bike was due and included went ok when I went back a week later.

Oh, and the dozy sales rep sent out a mass email and included everyone in the "to" section, great for spammers!

QUOTE Data protection law ...

Make it sound really formal .. see what happens

Does anyone know if that breaks any data protection laws? Or am I right to have a freebie email account for junk like that :D

The emailing wally struck again. They sent a 1mb .bmp attachment that could easily have been compressed to a few kb. I haven't got around to sending them it back and explaining! ;)

no one answers questions on this site....bit of denial going on here!
