Riding back from Eynesford at about 23.00 - so dark and with lights on, the whole thing shut down for about 2 - 3 seconds. Lights off, ignition off and immediately pulled in the clutch. ..............then

Everything back on full song for reminder of run home.

Just like switching kill switch off and immediately on again.

Spooky - anyone else suffered the same or similar?????????????:nenau :nenau

No..........................

It was going across the haunted bit to the top of the A20 down Wrotham Hill actually:rolleyes:

How is your face - feckin painfull I trust:D :D

Did you ever recieve your diploma for DIY dentistry??????

Mine did it while filtering through bank holiday traffic into Hastings.
Not much fun but as I coasted to a halt it all came back to life. That was over a year ago and it hasn't happened again (touch wood).

falmouth by-pass

i was zipping about last weekend and almost had a similar thing- almost wiped out/ate tarmac..luckily i didnt.

I was going up hill on a dual carriage way, all clear... i wrapped the throttle all the way back and she started to roar up the road, next thing it cut out totally...massive speed wobble as clutch was pulled in to stabilise, no electrics..got her under control and pulled over safely only to find the igniton key in the off position!!!... i can only imagine it wasn't fully clicked over in the first place? and thre extra vibes from the hard revs flicked it to off? i am totally confused..and it is now another little check i do before opening the bike up on straights...quick visual check on ignition key...nightmare!

I had a car that did this on a regular basis 'well, it's lights would go out but the car kept going'. Once I got used to it, It didn't bother me that much. I just used to stay going straight on untill they came back on. Then it did it going around a bend at about 60mph  OOPS

Ive had the ignition key turn off on mine as well. I was just coming up to a junction when i suddenly had no brakes (servo). A bit worrying until i worked out what was wrong. Never happened since though.

Something similar used to happen with my XS 650 c. 1986. That was in the days of one fuse for all the electrcis. Somehow it was less scary in those days.

Also riding home from Eynsford last night, I started to worry about the headlight bulb blowing an leaving me mid-corner in the dark along empty country roads. It didn't happen, but it's nice to have something to worry about.

How stange?

2007 GSA 1k miles

Parked outside my house last night to open garage door, engine off key out. On returning to the bike (some 60 seconds later) the headlight was flickering on and off for about 5 seconds then stayed off?????

How weird or how common?

Doug

You have two separate headlights on a 1200, if your dipped beam blows quickly switch on high beam and hey presto you can see (and probably blind any oncoming traffic to boot). As soon as you can, find a lit area and swap the lamps over from the high to dipped and ride to the nearest petrol station on dipped beam and buy a replacement lamp.

Do you leave a key fob on the ignition key? Is it possible that the sudden windrush could be catching the fob which in turn could turn the ignition off? Anyway, its a theory because I notice sometimes that my plastic key fob gets blown all over the place and certainly violently enough to catch your eye. :nenau I've never had mind switch off though. :thumb2
