Scorchio Trip to Euro Land

Great stuff Andrew. Enjoying it thanks

Just missed you on my replies Tim, more to come . You are off to the Vosges I think ive seen on here. Julie and I will go back with more time. We were there midweek so almost had it to ourselves. Enjoy your trip Tim. Do you need any of them there breathalyser things Julie and I have a pair each if you or Pals want them FOC

Thought of you whilst planning this Ash. All relatively short days in the saddle, more time to spend at destination was our brief. We have done loads of trips where there have been some high mile days and you come back needing a holiday. The bimble and stop loads worked a treat for us. One of our best ever holidays

:thumb

Got my first tour coming up since 2009 at the end of September & 3 of the 7 days are 400miles + a day :(

Not my idea of fun & I know with my busted bones I am going to pay the price ( cry cry )

I think I have my new 700GS set up the best I can get ( I hope anyway ) ;)

But no other way to get to the destinations in the 7 days unless we put the miles in.
My mate I'm going with has his own business so can only get 7 days away, so needs must.

Luckily after the high days we have little or no miles to do the next day ( fank feck )
And the miles are across Germany.

Really enjoying your trip report Andrew, for people like me that can't do most of the trips folk post up here it's a way of seeing great places & most appreciated :thumb2

What you need Ash is a physio lady at every stop after those long days:D Our usual routine is very long days before and after main event but have seen the light. We have two weeks every year to go away usually by bike that will be our only holiday so relaxation has to come into it. We then try to do Dent do and Bills STD but can only do sat come home Sunday for work committments. Looking forward to your trip report Ash:beerjug:

Little route planned mostly B roads to arrive at Friends for lunchtime in Sindelfigen

We arrive on schedule , easy when there is just two of us . Our friends and family show us Sindelfingen which is a lovely mix of old and new. Loads of restaurants theres a lively buzz to the place, a great feel. Karin says its quiet at the moment as many are on holiday from the main Mercedes plant. If you get the opportunity to visit - explore. With its peoples parks, lakes old town and new we loved it. Made easier with our own Tour Guide. We visited Stuttgart for a few hours after going to the

http://skyloop-building.de/en/skyloop/

Karin has project managed the fit and finish of this building and her Company have started to move in. Most impressive place.

She had developed a drip feed program of must sees so we would need to come back to view the rest . Good plan:D

A few Sindelfigen pictures

Little statue in the main square , behind it is the stage where live bands play regularly

Stuttgart has lots to offer , didnt get to the Museums this time but did the open top bus city tour, most enjoyable.

A few pictures

The mahoosive Museum and Shrine to the Scheiwn

Overlooking the City

What a most relaxing 3 days we had , almost a shame to move on but Rothenburg calls. A quick mixed run is planned so we can explore on arrival .

Rothenburg

We arrive around 12 ish and check in, its a proper old fashioned Hotel. They were serving lunch on our arrival, looking and smelling good we booked a table ,they could only do 6pm ? All became clear later.

We decide to walk the Covered Wall and then quarter the Town and view the sights, 6.5 miles later we have explored it all ( Julie has an App for that ). We return for tea and its a set menu as they only do food at lunchtime usually but as we asked , thats why the 6pm only time. No complaints as it was excellent , The Chef/Owner was a good cook, Mushroom soup starter , Chef special schnitzel with bacon and cheese centre little roasties a mushroom sauce and the obligatory salad plate.

The Hotel is 100mtrs from the Hanging Gate int Rothenburg

Also at night, we went back for more

What a day in a fantastic walled town, lots of restraunts and coffee bars and sadly a shop selling Christmas Stuff 24/7 I had to skip this shop and have a lie down.

Tomorrow its off to Hann Munden.

I was not impressed with Rothenburg: a lovely, well-kept, medieval city, but way too many tourists and "Christmas" shops for those tourists.

I loved Rothernburg, however you are right about the two massive Christmas shops. It's a strange place as a lot of the buildings have been rebuilt after the war as we bombed the shit out of it.

We found that all the places we visited were busy but not heaving, plenty of elbow room. We did wonder whether recent terrorist attacks elsewhere had put people off??
Hope not.

Tomorrow its off to Hann Munden.

Julie takes the lead toward Hann Munden, oh its so nice to follow , lovely – I quickly realise that she is making better progress than me and get back on the gas. Apart from the two diversions en route we are making good time . German friends said that they tend to schedule roadworks for August as most folks are on holiday. Best to have a map for these occasions as the satnag tries to take you back to same road if waypointed on the 590 you can skip a point or ask it for a diversion for blocked roads or just follow yellow diversion signs as in UK. This cross country riding sans motorway is so much better.

TinyTim one for you

We arrive at our Hotel Jagdhaus Heede thanks Booking.com its a little way out of time in the woodland but a grand place to stay.

A few pictures from t`internet of Hann Munden as memory card corrupted. Truth is I deleted yesterdays via computer instead of off camera.

Another Terry Pratchett experience

Over a cold one we decide to eat at the Hotel as its packed with locals, downside is plastic garden furniture , one fart and it will collapse under my bulk. The food though was very good,

Rick there was chips too thrice cooked whatever that means

Julie out happy snapping our Hotel before we set off for the Harz.

On approach to the Harz Region, oh for a dip as temps in mid 30s

Not many photos , well the roads were too much fun so many wiggly bits,

We are soon laving the Harz and descending to the valley

All too brief but intend to come back with more time. We stop for refreshments

Iced coffee

we chat with the boys in blue on a training mission

Much hilarity ensues when Julie asks whose bike is parked away from main group

A nice group of guys they had stopped for a small bier and a debrief. They were off into the Harz, mmmmm shall we go back into the mountains. Sadly we need to plod on to Paderborn.
En route we dine alfresco simple and cheap.

We are in the shade of the building , I entertain the locals by drying me smalls ,washed at hotel. By the time lunch was finished me Keks were dry.

Paderborn calls

We arrive in Paderborn at 14.30 we quickly find the Ibis central drop the gear off, shower and change and go find a beer

Most welcome . After an intial walk by the river we realise again that we have headed in the wrong direction,:blast so pleasant by the river who cares.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen and all that 36 deg C so we cover the whole of Paderborn using the excellent guide. Much of the place rebuilt after the war, there is still plenty of old quarter and lots of trees ,open spaces and water. A charming place.
Just a few photos

We wander back to base through town and encounter another moped, well used but good to see

Off to Arnhem tomorrow our last day before the Ferry home. We have booked this place

Setting off from Paderborn late morning we arrive book in and decide because we are so late, we will leave the sights for another time. The hotel and food is good. Some lovely walks and the zoo is 1/2mile away if you were so inclined.

We have an afternoon start and head up to the Ferry arriving at 16.00 so an hour in the sun chatting to two blokes new to the Bmw R1200gs from Sheffield, spooky.
We were in for a treat as the Sun set and gave us a splendid display

Then coming into Hull the opposite as things warm up all misty and moody

Well thats it , another biking holiday over but one of our best. Thanks for all the positive responces.

Lastly for Ash you can get a 0% alcohol Radler shanddy in most places visited I have seen on here you likes a panache` . Grand cold after a day in the saddle. Enjoy your trip.

Andrew

Great report!

Thanks Robin,we are a little like Japanese and Chinese tourists with the photos. The better ones are usually Julie's , she has an eye for detail

That was 2 pages full of reasons why I like touring in Europe :thumb2

The best thing is that it just opens up more possibilities for another trip. Really grand doing shorter days on the bikes this year . Mrs has hailed this trip as one of our best.:thumby:
