Thinking of taking the wife on our 20th anniveraary up and around Scotland
anyone got any tips on where to go and stop on route would like to stop at Loch Lommand but then up West coast and over to East coast got 7 days to have a play, cheers BIG AL

Visit all of it - we love it up there;

For B&B's try looking at Farmstay at http://www.farmstay.co.uk/
we= have used them a lot and they have always been great.

If you like mountains and coastal rides this is one of the best up there:
http://applecross.uk.com/index.htm

Or of course the Island of Skye is worth a visit etc etc or just get lost in the central belt or down in the lowland forests (Spent a day riding around that area and the only other thing we saw all day (apart from the wild life and there was lots of it) was another GSer!

What ever you do - make your own route as using someone else's could be disappointing for your needs - look on the web - net thingy with a map by your side and do some research on things you both enjoy. Have a great trip.

Start at Dumbarton and follow the A82' all the way to Fort William. Then head for Kyle of Lochalsh, Strathcarron, Applecross then right up the west coast to the top. You will be amazed.

If you want a night of luxury, and money's no object, stay at Cameron House on Loch Lomond.:thumb

Nah, the bottom end of the A82 is overcrowded and dull. Better to use the Gourock - Hunters Quay Crossing and then head to Tyndrum via Inverarary :thumb2

To Oban, then across to the Outer Hebrides for 2-3 days, then ferry to Uig on Skye, then down to Armadale and the ferry across to Mallaig, the run along the A830 to Fort William is amazing. Then North on the A87 and up Lock Ness before coming back via the A9 and then South via Aviemore and along the A86 back towards Fort Bill then south over Rannoch Moor. Accomodation shouldn't be an issue dependent on when you go ?

beetleboy Your just starting out We are going up for a trip as well and are nearing our 40th anniversary !! Beat that.

Assuming you are taking the bike, with your wife pillion?

If so - you won't benefit from the "race-track" route.........

Can I suggest: Up Loch Lomond, accross the Rest-and-be-thankful to Inveraray, on through Lochguilphead and up to Oban.

Carry on up to Invergarry and turn off on the Loch Garry road to Dornie.

From there - do a tour of Skye, or Plockton - Loch Carron, Applecross, Ullapool?

From Ullapool - continue north around the north coast - coming back down through Altnaharra and Lairg.

You can rejoin the Loch Ness Road from there. Don't miss out on Glencoe/Rannoch moor, though.
