Trying to get a small bunch of friends together for a ride around the nc500. Hopefully we will be staying somewhere near Loch Ness on the first night then split the route in two so 250miles each day. The question is how we get there? We will be meeting near the Humber bridge so need some advice from here to Inverness area. To begin we can go via wetwang to Malton, kirkbymooreside, Hutton le hole, guisborough, a66 around Middlesbrough, a167 towards Gateshead and stop off at the Angel of the north. A696 towards rochester, a68 to Edinburgh, over the bridge then a84 north west, a82 to glencoe and Loch Ness. Thoughts and recommendations?

Over FRB, blast north for 35 minutes to Perth, then up A93 all the way over Glenshee, Braemar, turn left at Crathie, Gairnshiel, Cockbridge, Lecht, Tomintoul, Grantown, Culloden, Inversneckie.

I did this trip solo in September from Nottingham, staying the first night in Strathpeffer (near Inverness), second night in Rhiconich (North west Scotland), and 3rd night back in Strathpeffer.

Did a blast up A1/M to A68 and stayed on the A68 pretty much all the way up to Edinburgh. Then M90/A9 to Inverness.

I really like the A68, interesting enough, nice to stop in Jedburgh, and as I left early, was in Inverness by 4:30pm. There are a few fixed speed cameras on it, but pretty easy to spot.

RBW.

+1 for this route you'll not get better

Re the NC 500 it starts and finishes in Inverness from what I've read can I suggest if you do it anti clockwise when you leave Ullapool heading for Inverness you hang a right onto the A832 and just keep going this gives you the option of taking the coast road via
Shieldaig,Applecross,Strathcaron then over into Glenshiel A87 or continue through Kinlochewe to Achnasheen hang aright onto the A890 to Strathcarron and as above drop down into Glen Shiel hang a left onto the A87 and return to Inverness or Fort William
