for all you scottoiler afficiandos, what oil do you use in the scottoiler system if you cant get the original oil ?

Chainsaw oil is the general substitute. It's designed for a similar application and, importantly, doesn't fling off too easily.

I know a couple of scottoiler users who do this and seem happy.

I think ATF can also be used.

And fit the dual head unit. Cuts oil use down by 2/3 and fling by 7/8

I used chainsaw oil in the Scotoiler on my VFR, no chain adjustment was needed in 10000 miles. It's much cheaper than the 'genuine' stuff.

I once used sunflower oil on a trip to Scotland. Blagged from a B&B as I had forgotten my top up bottle. A bit runny but did the job of lubing the chain during my very wet ride home to Herefordshire. Ecofriendly too!

Normally, I used chainsaw oil. Seems to be about 4 quid a litre in a high st. lawnmower shop but should be much cheaper if you go to an agricultural merchant or Costco. I haven't bought any for a while but you should get a gallon for under a tenner.

Alternatively, just get a gallon of Tesco Value motor oil for about 4 quid. It will lube very well but might make a mess on the rear wheel if you don't keep an eye on the flow rate

i just use engine oil, thinned out with a little parrafin or diesel works for me

as you can see by my location, i'm a long way from the source and original stuff is priced as if it has platinum extract added.
chain saw oil, did not think of that.

Is that bar oil for a chainsaw - or the 2 cycle oil I mix with gas? Over here bar oil is about $3 a gallon (Poulan), the 2 cycle mix oil is more expensive.
