OK, I know this has been done to death over the years so apologies for sending anyone to sleep...However:

My standard GS screen is doing my head in. The settings are: Mind numbing turbulence position through to wind noise increase position. Somewhere inbetween I've found a compromise that is not perfect but OK on short trips but a nightmare on long motorway journeys.

After a fair bit of research on the forums and even more umming and arring I bought a GIVI screen. This has proved to be worse at certain speeds than the original BMW screen.

Has anyone out there found a proper solution for a 5 foot-10er to sit on the GS at 80mph-ish in smooth quiet airflow???

I understand the Tobinators work very well on the 1150? And are an 'improvement' on the 1200? Anyone got any comments or advice on Tobinators for the 1200???

I would even consider the obscenely expensive Desierto III fairing/screen if it solved the problem. Has anyone used one of these? Can anyone give me any feedback?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Ken :blast

im same hieght, i set my vario midway and its spot on,,depends on so many variable,s though,,,,,,,,,,,,

Well, everyone's different when it comes to screens, different body shapes/sizes etc. But I'm 5'11" and I've found the best solution is to have a set of winglets to get rid of the buffeting, and a touratech screen spoiler to get rid of the whistle. A laminar lip may be better as it's more adjustable.

This setup works for me anyway, I can sit at 80 with the visor open quite happily (I'll still wear earplugs for long journeys though). One problem I do still get though, an odd one, is when I'm stuck behind a van or a large car I get a fair bit of side to side buffeting. I've still not worked that one out, though I'm starting to think that tobinators might be the next step.

Take the screen off, or cut it down somewhat, you will be in the wind of course but it will be "clean air" IE no turbulance.

Again, i have to say that when riding a motorbike, indeed any motorbike, you have to expect to be effected by the forces of nature !!

You will get blown about, you will get wet in the rain, you will get dirty when in those sort of conditions.

It's all part of the experience.

Ken

my mate is same height as you and suffers the same problems, he fitted the tobinators without much success, although the positioning of the GPS mount does not allow for the full range of adjustment.

Where abouts in macc are you?

5' 11", Arai TourX, screen set to the lowest position (the TourX was rattling and buzzing with the screen set forward) and no problems. Or at least none that give me any concerns. I too seem to get 'blown about' behind vans, but that doesn't last long. :D I can happily do the ton plus (on a closed road, officer) with this set-up and have so far not felt the need to look for an alternative screen.

I'm a similar height to you and tried a few screens on the bike before finding the MRA Vario which I found worked brilliantly.

The adjustment available from the sliding top section and the air gap between the sections totally eliminated buffeting and I found it possible to ride at 70 plus (on non public roads officer:augie ) with the visor fully open.

The Diserto III is a lovely piece of kit and works very well but at 4 times the cost of the MRA. Dieserto looks the dawgs danglies though

I picked mine up pre-owned from a member of this parish but if you click the link in my post it will take you to the HPS website who are the importers.

New they are £106 plus postage, £114.61 all in.

Thunder - you got your GSA screen and bracket up for sale then?

Not a chance, the MRA was on the previous bike, the GSA screen is staying on the new one. :aidan

I've wondered about a smaller screen for my GSA for the hotter areas of the world, and maybe the MRA.

But as they only seem to do huge ones for the GSA, and I can't think it's worth dismantling half the bike to put on the lightweight screen mounts, I'll guess that the GSA screen will stay

Smaller screens available for the GS will fit the GSA as the mounting frames are the same.

Removing the Screen is not that difficult once you've done it a few times. :augie

Check out "reduce wind noise for low seat riders", is cheap & quick. Might be worth trying?

Defo with thunder on this one. The MRA Vario is the way to go!! Got mine at the same time as snotty wife and sure it was only about £90. Ping him a PM and im sure he will have all the details.
