Does anyone know what size the screws are that hold the plastic relay holders to the frame on a 92 r80gs? Nothing i have seams to fit. I'm trying to replace everything in stainless as i build the bike back up. I can't find them on motoworks or realoem.

ok thanks - 4mm self tapers - i'll try and find some stainless ones out there - had a quick look but not found any yet

Make sure before you but mate, im not 100% sure. Not without whipping my tank off anyway !!

S/S Self tappers are definitely available.
If arkwright hasnt got what you want, i will have them here if you want any.

(Or contact HT engineering in surrey. I have used them for years for stainless screws bolts etc. They come very much recomended)

That would be useful. I can't find stanless self tapers anywhere. 4mm stainless bolts I have already but they don't work, the thread just doesn't catch when you try to screw them in.

PM me your address and I'll have a look what holds mine on and post you the necessary.

Sad aren't we, long may it continue!

My Voltage regulator is held on with 4mm self tappers, everything else with 4mm capscrews!

finish off this thread

just to tidy up this thread for any future visitors, as some posts went to my project katmandu thread.

Arkwright tried to help with by sending me some replacement stainless steel self tapers for fitting the relays etc, but the originals (on the left) have a really fine thread.

Then "dr nosh" advised

Those original screws are trade named 'Taptite'

Essentially a conventional metric thread, but the overall shank of the screw is oval, with a groove for starting the screw.
The hole that the screw is to be fitted into is drilled to the tapping size and the screw wound in. Self tapping of a sort.

You could use a conventional threaded Mx screw, just thread gauge the original and run a tap of the correct size into the hole first.
