Excuse my ignorance, but can anyone tell me how to prevent the paint on the tank getting scuffed from my inside leg and knees.

I've managed to scuff every bike I've owned but I don't want the same to happen to my GS.

Stick on spots and tabs look awful. Baglux cover is expensive and hides the lovely paint job. Polishing is hard work and only lasts until your next ride out.

Most people manage to keep their paint looking immaculate. How do you do it?

stick on

Only way I found was I buy a sheet of 12 x 8" clear vinyl from my local bike shop - cut it in half width ways - place up against the tank and draw a curved line to fit the curve of the tank cut along the line then place face down on the other half [to a give a mirror image for the other side of the tank. Cut that one out. Warm with a fan heater or hair dryer - remove sticky backing and apply from one corner, smoothing out as I press it down to remove air bubbles.
BUT if you dont put some sort of protection on it your leathers will eventually scuff it as you move about.:(

Shaunie,

this question was asked recently on the ADVrider site. Similar advice to that above, but this website was also mentioned http://www.thetankslapper.com/. They make specially cut, removeable & re-usable 'invisible' protection. Never used them, so I can't reccommend them myself, but they may be worth a look.....

MikeO:)

Further to Notadrop's reply, I bought an A4 size sheet from hein Gerricke for £4.99 and I had enough left to cut out a couple of strips for the leading edge of each side tank lobe as I was getting stone chips a lot. It also works to protect against scratches from a magnetic tank bag

Just in case Notadrop's post didn't get through I thought I send it again :D

Who's a pretty boy then...pieces of eight...pretty polly

What scuffed tank?

30' inside leg solves the problem ever time.

Sadly there are other downsides as you can imagine
