have 550, ;)formatted card to FAT32, when i send info to it via mapsource the computer acknowledges it as being sent but can not find the info or the card on the unit plaese help :nenau:spitfire

What are you sending to the card?

Okay, have you sent the waypoints to the unit or the card?

If you've sent them to the card I'd suggest you resend them to the unit itself.

If they're just waypoints (not POI's) I would normally send them to the unit - it can hold up to 500.

If you've sent the waypoints to the unit, disconnect it from the pc & turn it on & let it go through it's start up procedure.

When it's done that, select "where to" and then "favourites"

If they're not there, leave the unit alone for a minute and you may/should get a "new data found" type message (going from memory here, bear with me), and "do you wish to import it". Say yes and it should import them into your favourites.

I had this a while ago, assuming that the waypoints would be there straight away, as per the old style Garmin units.

If it doesn't find any, try selecting "wrench" (as they call it on the Zumo forums), ie the spanner in the bottom right hand side, then "user data", then "import data", then "favourites" and hopefully that should import them.

If they're not there, we'll have a review of what you're doing & what I'm saying :D

ps. You have saved the waypoints in GPX format or GDB format? Don't think it makes a difference, but I need to check

thanks for the replys Jon,:beerjug: will try and bear with this, should the Sd card show up on the device even if it was empty ? :nenau

Is it down to drive letters??

I had the problem of the invisible SD card when connecting the Zumo to my laptop. The Zumo appeared as drive E, but there was no sign of the SD card, which should appear as an additional drive in its own right. I already have a drive F mapped on the laptop which is a network server.

It turned out that the reason I couldn't see the SD card is because XP labelled it as drive F, but drive F in Explorer was already set to an external server. The fix is described in the Zumo op manual on about p64 (I think). Its easy, but involves a trip into the depths of the Win control panel to set the SD card drive letter to something other than F (or, more precisely, to an unused drive letter).

It's funny, my pc could see the Zumo, but my laptop couldn't - until I changed the AVG for the lastest one, then it could see it all of a sudden? :nenau

Kept saying that I needed the Garmin drivers, but it wouldn't let me install them as the GPS has to be attached to do so - which it couldn't see :eek

Still, all sorted now.

Find all this transfering of stuff confusing :confused:

If I want to sent POI's to my Zumo 550, should I send them to the unit or the sd card?

i want to know the same thing ? i also tried sending music to the stupid yoke and nothing showed up,:( still think i am the weak link as my computer skills are only average.:monkeypiz

Well La-de-dah.. Mr Winner of the Map only class in the Nav Rally has got himself a GPS:aidan

How big is the Card?
I've used 2GB with no problem, but my 4GB is s bit tempremental with the Zumo.

Easy way to tell is to stick a photo onto it. When you stick it into the Zumo it should prompt you that it has discovered new data and ask if you want to import.

When I did it on your laptop a few weeks back I downloaded the file from

One of these worked, the other didn't and I had to pull it into a specific folder as you didn't have mapsource at the time.

I'd suggest you open them in Mapsource and then use the "Send To" option..the waypoints should come up as a list in favourites.

Right. POI's - Not Waypoints - have to be in a folder entitled "POI" and put onto your unit using Garmins own POI Loader software.

Music needs to be in a folder entitled "MP3" and can be copied onto the SD card using windows explorer.

You need take some time to read some of the instructions on how to as the Zumo is quite different from any other Garmin GPS I've owned/used (7 so far).

Have you read Whattons sticky at the top of this forum? Click here if you haven't.

If you use a "safety camera database" I think I'm right in thinking that each time you update it with new "danger" areas, you need to have any other POI's that you want to be there, need to be in the same folder?

Or have a POI folder for the ones you always want to be there, and on each camera update, drop the update into that folder?
