If all go's to plan :thumb2 I will be taking the SE to Morocco next year :D

Two main concerns are fuel and luggage...As some SE's have had the subframe snap ...I thought it might be a good idea to beef mine up ...So I took it over to Verns workshop to see if he could help :thumb2 and the anwser was yes ,just remove the subframe and drop it off next time your passing...
So back home into the garage to strip the bike down...

If you look you can see the bolt hole just as the single tubing starts thats the weak spot...

Now Vern has come up with a really clever way of beefing it all up when I get it back i'll post some more photos when he's finished working his magic ...:thumb2

As for the fuel issue there are quite a few options out there eg; Large tanks, side mounted aux tanks, but I have something else that I'm going to try will post more details when I have finished the Subframe work...

Big thank you to Vern if your in need of panniers or welding ect give him a bell his panniers are superb :drool

This maybe an option for fuel??? www.bestrestproducts.com
At the end of the day fuel should`nt be too big a concern unless you`re going deep into the middle of nowhere..maybe think that after all,the Moroccans have to fuel their own vehicles and they live where you`ll be going

I trust this assists ref the fuel question
Please keep posting so we can follow your developments.

Thanks for the link :thumb2

Great idea how simple is that ...:clap Perfect for the odd trip that I'm going to do where extra fuel is needed ...

Verns going to be welding the subframe this weekend then I'll get the bike back together and see if theres room to fit the best rest with my rack and Andystrapz's fitted ...

Really helps when someone takes the time to give the heads up on a product like that ...

Phil ,

I had a chat with the guys at Bestrest in 2004 when I was touring the states. I started and ened my trip in Seattle just down the road from their workshop. I had an oversized Bestrest luggage plate fitted to my 1100 to carry my large Ortleib it was very well made and finished . Great people to talk to and the product was great .:thumb2

what you need is a nice cheap supermoto tank that holds 16-17lts just like this one

Subrame is back...

Popped round to see Vern this evening as he had finished beefing up the SE subframe...:clap

Well happy cracking job :clap:clap:clap

As you can see Vern has made some box section out of 2.5 mm alloy plate and welded a plate over the weak spot just to be belt and braces ...shall dropping in to his workshop in a week or so as he's going to make me some alloy spacers on his lathe to mount the rack on ...

Thanks Vern Quality work :thumb2

What are you doing for fuel?

If you plan to be doing sand, Id go for a rear tank - not the aqualine...
