I keep getting approached by companys offering search engine optimisation.

We have a relatively new website for our stonemasonry and fireplace company. And we would obviously like this to appear search engine results. Google in particular.

A company called Just searching has contacted me and seem a bit more plausible and genuine than some of the others. (or maybe just a better salesman?!)

Any way... do any of you tossers know anything about this subject (Search eng Optimisation) or have any leads to companies that you can recommend in this field?

Many thanks

Will

If you want good results, they charge a lot of money.

Spend some time reading up on the web and you can do a lot of it yourself.

You can improve the searchability of your site easily by including the right "keywords" in the header on each web page.

This is an example of one of my pages.

meta name="keywords" content="pond, water, maintenance, clean, liner, plant, marginal, water lily, edge"

If you want to pay money, subscribe to GoogleAds and you can get your website to appear in the blue column of "Sponsered Links" on the right of each Google page. The number of keywords and their "hittability" are the key to the amount the clickthroughs cost you.

I am not an HTM/Internet buff, so there are most probably other stuff you can do for free. (Cue Steptoe :) )
