So we draw to the end – of old twenty ten
Will we be seeing the likes of it ever again
Like all going before it – that year flew by
The summer aside lads, it brought little joy

Despite global warming, it started so cold
The snow and ice, well it fair took a hold
Before very long, spring extended its grip
So past Paddy’s day – into summer we slip

The time to be travelling away on your bike
Heading off yonder – to where ever you like
Go near and afar, to them spots continental
For trips long or short – go fast or go gentle

With so scary speed the summer slides past
Despite you wishing, that long it would last
Bright radiance – there’s nothing to beat her
But the sun it heads south, past the equator

Autumn leaves brown, they drop off the trees
Trips away now, are much harder to squeeze
That year’s gone fast – no it’s not a delusion
It’s racing on now to its end and conclusion

The year was dominated by news of our debt
IMF and their bailout – will they rescue us yet
The banks, shored up by the ailing tax payer
Many say for ever – that we haven’t a prayer

In these dark times – with sun’s low decline
At Christmas to be cheery, it is a good time
Eat drink and be merry, the old saying goes
It is time to put aside, all our national woes

With the days so short and so chilly as well
The winter casts on us, an oppressive spell
It dwells in our heads – a prospect so cruelly
We sure needed an escape, a bit of a hooley

Our ancient ancestors by banks of the Boyne
During dark winter days – with little sunshine
They spot around now a great cyclical change
Signalling rebirth – as marked at Newgrange

They started to party and indulge in a feast
In turn subjected to rule, religion and priest
Behaviours so heathen – carousing and song
But now it’s reverted, to where it came from

We know is as Christmas – needed real bad
Sure without it at all, we would clearly be sad
In no kind of shape for the coming New Year
Now the snow and ice, again, grips us severe

The big cosmic wheel – for ever goes round
Season on season, creep up and compound
But enough of that stuff, best left to the seer
Let’s park it for now – It’s time for good cheer

I hope you’ve sent your wee letter to Santa
Asked him to drop off whatever you wanta
While thinking of others, apart from yourself
Gone to the North Pole – to him and the elf

Of what did you seek, what was your design
You know yourself best – the way you incline
No need to others, those secrets divulging
He’ll carry that sack, to your place – bulging

From me, I extend all wishes of this season
I’m hoping that you have no issue – or reason
Not to celebrate with those of your choosing
Enjoy and be merry – no time to be loosing

Twenty eleven waits, in the wings to be drivin
May our paths cross then – and even enliven
Part of life’s great cycle as it trips round again
The whole big shebang – that’s it folks – amen
