Hi Folks,
Does anyone know the seat height of the origional 650gs single compared to the new 650 gs twin.
Was a factory lowered suspension ever an option?
Joanne and i had a look at the new 650 twin today it was to tall for her even with the low seat.
But our feeling was that with the comfort pack and factory lowering kit £6710 was too expensive for a first bike and we would maybe look for a nice 650single.
Any advice and tips welcomed.

Steve

I believe the factory lowered bike with the standard seat is 750mm.

Have a look over at F650.co.uk for more information.

Hey Steve,

The older bike can be found in the factory lowered guise, and I've seen a lady of 4'10" on one who could reach the ground ok.

Now; having said that if Joanne has an inside leg measurement of 29" or more she will be fine on a standard 650 single with the standard/low seat fitted (BM only offered two seat height's 'standard/low' as fitted to the F650GS 00-07 and the 'Hi' as fitted to the Dakars, though slightly lower seats are available from TT & Wunderlich, but they cost lots and S/h ones are very rare) with just the possibility of the need to slide the forks through the yokes about 20mm.

It is also possible to fit lowering links which will drop the seat hight by an inch or two. You'll also need to lower the front as above to match the rear.

Hope this helps you both.

Hi Val.

I am 5`7" with a 29" leg and I am looking for a F650 Single model, do you think a standard with a normal seat will be suitable or a Low seat.
I like to have my feet comfortable on the ground, I live in Swindon and have been looking for a good 2005-2007 model but none in the area to try for size.

Low bike

Hi

If it helps I'm 5 fot 2 with 28 inside leg & am OK with a low set on the 650. My wife same size give 1/4 inch has the lowered 650, which she more than adequatley copes with.

I must say that the lowered bike does feel nice - so much easier to manouver, however I've got used to mine now & I'm very happy with it.

Hope it helps.\

If you do find a standard one too high, you can always fit Kouba links to drop it down or a low seat.
Factory lowered ones are quite rare to find compared to standard GS's. The Dakar is about an inch taller than a normal GS too so you can shy away from the extra expense of that particular model (and save ya self some cash!).

Lowering it will also stop it from leaning over so far when on the side stand, making it easier to lift (mines about 1.5-2 inches taller than a standard Dakar and, even though I'm a strong bloke, even I have problems taking it off the side stand :blast:blast:blast

They are deceptively heavy!

A friend in South London is looking to sell his factory lowered GS in the near future.

Form an orderly queue here please.

My wife is only 5'2" and has a 54 plate 650gs. She wasn't too happy with the standard height of her bike so we got the seat "scooped" by about one and a half inches and I dropped the forks through the yokes by 21mm. She can now get both her feet flat on the floor when she's got her boots on! Superb. Go for it cos they are great bikes!
