I've not used this before- I'm looking to get a plate which I understand I need, when I take off the rear seat for touring & additional luggage.
The plate covers the tool box, as otherwise the under-seat toolbox lid comes off intransit.
Hope I'm making myself clear- if I need to explain more- pls let me know!:rob

There's a little plastic thingy in the toolbox to fit to the lid to stop it coming off,you just have to look for it:thumb

Black plastic. It slides into the grooves on the underside of the toolbox lid, this aligns with the seat locking mechanism.

Thanks Gypsy for the diagram , but I've been told this can pop out when riding the bike, so a plate is available to lock/ bolt in place when the seat isn't used.
if I'm talkin a load of s----e, please let me know!

BMW supply as standard a black plastic cover. I have only had mine come off once, and that was offroading. I replaced it with a heavy metal aftermarket plate from Bestrest. It also offers a modicum of security as it is harder to prise open than the standard plastic one. Getting it was a nightmare, and it was very expensive, but on balance I think it was worth it, but then I only ride one up now, regularly carry big heavy/bulky loads (hence never have the pillion seat attached, and thus often have nothing on to secure the toolplate cover) and also leave the bike parked up outside hotels in not very salubrious areas (not that I keep anything of value under the plate.
PS - plate design means no standard tool tray, you get a plastic tube for the tools, and a bit of space for extra bits and bobs.
