I'm not going to use my rear seat. I've bought a tool tray locking lid, so that's sorted. But is there anyway of securing the front seat on my 1100GS. It doesn't seem to lock into position and just lifts off. Is there a catch/leaver that's not working on my bike or does the rear seat hold it on ?
cheers.
Rob.

It should stay fixed, take the seats off and have a look at the mechanism you probably don't have it located correctly.

Try turning the key as you let the rear mounts of the front seat locate then give the seat a thump.

I've just gone and had a look (not raining for a change). Looks like my mechanism is knackerd. As I'm not using my rear seat anymore, that's not a problem. But it looks like my front seat just has a bar that slides into the four plastic slots and I'm presuming, that it's only having a locked rear seat fitted that stops the front seat sliding back and then up and off !

If that's so, how do you secure a single front seat with no rear fitted.

It's been a long, long Christmas , so if I'm being massively stupid and not noticing somthing on my own bike............be gentle please !

The front seat locks into the same mechanism, all on the nearside of the seat, look at my previous link and item Seat lock mechanism | SEA13405
hopefully shed some light for you

Thanks Uncle-F
Penny has dropped. Looks like more money to be spent.I'll get hold of a new/used locking mechanism. Still, it's more fun than wasting money on flowers for the wife !

All sorted, thanks.

You do know that there's a locking fitting in the tool box that slides into the lid to enable you to lock the plastic cover in place if you aren't using the rear seat ..

God, I have so much to learn. No, didn't know that. I'm ok with the Rugged Roads plate I've bought (luckily). Looks like BMW have thought of everything.
Thanks Steptoe.

That's news to me too, I wondered what that piece of plastic was :blast

Thanks for the heads up :D

Every day's a skool day ;)

Now all I have to do is work out how it fits

It slides into the slot underneath the lid

I just had a look at my seat lock. As suggested above, the mechanism has been trashed. No wonder it didn't work. I've ordered one, with new lock barrel and keys.

Lesson 1.
Go look at the problem properly before posting a question on here ! I would have sussed out the fault myself then. One good thing, it ads to the wealth of how too, what too and why too info on this esteemed site. See pic......

I need one of those, mine's been broken for ages, where did you manage to find one? Motorworks?

Just another point.
I orderd a lock set with the lock mech., but on inspection, I managed to remove the barrel from the old mech. and fit it to the new part. That means I keep one key for the ignition and seat.
Remove two small screws , lift off a plastic moulding and then look for a small plate underneath the barrel, it's sprung and can be pushed back into the cylinder of the lock and out it comes. Compress the sprung plate and it fits in the new barrel.

Thankfully, it all makes sense when you see the lock/catch . More than can be said for my ramblings above.

Only works if the front bits intact;)
