Is it possible to disable the self canceling part of the indicators? I find them really anoying, and they appear to time out regardless of you re-applying them, more a danger than a safety feature if you have not executed your turn!
With Yamaha's i have owned in the past it was just a case of diconnecting the sensor in the speedo.

Your help please?
05 model

Thanks

Brian.

Dunno about disabling them, but they are designed to self cancel after 300m - the distance when coming off a dual carriageway or motorway junction.

Thanks Mike, i was hoping i might gain control over the canceling process, looks like i need to stop signaling too early on Dual Carriageway's.

Cheers
Brian.

I thought it was 200 mtrs or 20 seconds, whichever was the longest??

Shep

Not in my experience. Both 1200 GS that I have owned and all loan bikes have been the same: Cancel after 15 flashes, as oon as the speed gets to 45kph or more. It is an easier logic to implement than measuring distance covered.

If you get boerd on a long trip give it a try...

What ever it is I think it's too short for right turns off fast A roads and rounderbouts.
If you want to give a decent signal so that a following car (that may be some way back) is ready to slowdown/stop if you can't make the turn, then they will self cancel before you get to the junction. On a group ride with four other bikes last week, I found I was always having to signal late to stop them cancelling half way around a rounderbout. In this case you need to signal early to show the following rider which way the group is going and then press again to stop some doughnut pulling out on you on the rounderbout. It's more trouble than it's worth!!

The answer is a "top up" i.e. pressing the button would give you a reset to another 200m or whatever. So after 100m pressing the button again would give you another 200m.
If this was the case the system would be acceptable. You'd think this could be done quite easily................ but the BMW engineers know best don't they.

I find my indicators work fine, then they don't, then they do, then they don....

Shep:)

The main point about these self cancelling indicators (perhaps the only point) is that you don't go along happily unaware, for miles and miles, that your indicator is flashing -until someone pulls out in front of you. I did not realise for a couple of years that they were self cancelling (it was not mentioned in my handbook) because I always kapt an eye on them and switched them off manually after a turn. I asked a friend with a 1200R if his were self cancelling - he doesn't know having had the bike for well over a year - BUT he also takes no chances;

Self cancelling indicators

But is there a way of disabling the self cancelling mechanism??? I'd prefer to turn them on and off when I want do. I've tried the "top up" method described above and it doesn't see to make any difference.

Kieran.
