My indicators seem to have a life of their own, they cancel themselves after around 8-10 flashes....do I have a fault or are they designed this way???

They all do that sir, unless you are stationary then they keep flashing.

As long as the brakes are applied the indicators stay on, for example whilst waiting to make a turn at a junction. If the brakes aren't applied they turn off after 20 (?) flashes.

Hi Chaps,

so I counted mine and they always do 15 flashes, which means if you're doing 70 and indicate to leave a motorway junction, you should hit the switch when alongside the 2 bar warning sign at the flashing will stop just as you cross the line! I must have been bored to suss that one out.

Yep I've worked out that if you hit the switch at the three bar sign (as per police training) the things finish before you leave the motorway! Doh!

I must be bloody bored or just boring! Just counted my flashes again...20 dead.

Wraithwrider, you must be counties!!

You know, Yamaha had great self cancelling indicator system from 1977 onwards. They went 10 seconds or 200 metres which ever was the longer. It was perfect.
Had it on my XS750 (1977) and my XJ650 (1981). Then I bought an XJ900 in 1984 and it wasn't fitted!? Anyone out there remember these? Why did they stop fitting it?

And you all thought BMW were inovators!

they are great

"to know still" it is up to you to switch off..... better then harley.... where the promise of correctness is promised by gravity also.

but if too long over due the 1200 shuts off..... so in the jam i still check.... better alert for safty.

but still do not know the paramiters of the auto action on 1200.

Dont have to hold the brakes on to keep the indicators flashing, my man says its down to forward motion.
