I've just read on another forum that the 12v cigarette charger for on the go charging of Sena units puts out 12v at the outlet.

This might not seem any sort of issue until you realise that the charger is the same as a phone charger. (Micro USB ?).

So, whatever you do, don't try to charge your phone with it. Unless you want a useless phone ! !

FFS that's pretty poor engineering.
The micro USB form plug is an industry standard.
Only the bodgiest outfit would design something with a standard form plug but fire some different voltages out if it.

My Sena charge lead is labelled with a warning. Not ideal, but shouldn't be an issue.

Got an SMH10 and never used the charger, the lead from my camera fits it and I charge it variously from the pc or a wall usb socket so it must work with a std 5v supply - if so stick the 12v jobbie in a plastic bag and wrap cellotape round it so it won't get used accidently..

It'll charge from either 5v or 12v but possibly only from 12v while in use. Depends if there's enough overhead. I haven't tried charging from 5v whilst using it so it may work and I'm talking crap. 12v may charge faster too. There must be a good reason for doing both.
